for those that do double duty during the year, how long do you usually rest between the end of your cross season and the beginning of your base miles training for road?

Considering we have a cross race on the 4th and another cross race on February 15th, there will be no real break this year. The last couple of weeks (since Nationals) I have ridden most days just for basic fitness. I didn't do any real hard rides in that time. Yesterday I put the powertap back on and am starting to ramp up the workouts again.
So I basically plan to carry the fitness from cross season into road season. I'm not worried about burnout because I will have a period in July when I will actually be forced to take a break for a while.

I took 2 weeks off. This is my first week back and I put in 16hours (12hours on the rollers) this week. I didn't plan on doing this many hours but it just happened)
My road season ends May/June since I work as a Pro team mechanic and have to travel with them, so I'm not too worried about killing myself. I'll have J/J/A off (ok limited training) then september its cross training/racing.

I only take 2 or 3 weeks off because I plan to race road hard in the early spring and hang it up in may to rest.

I've just finishing my 3rd (and last) week off the bike since the state cx championships.
At this point my rough schedule has me off the bike for a whole week during a transition once next season (I think its sometime in June).
I carry my fitness from the road into cross.

Yeah . . . I do that also. Tends to mean reallllly long racing seasons though.
You doing Crossocalypse on the 4th? Team Mack also has a cross race on February 15 up by Springfield, IL. I plan on going to both races.
Froze Toes is then right around the corner.

I don't believe in "off season" or extended breaks, or "base miles" in the sense that most riders seem to implement it.
So the answer to the OP's question is either "zero" or "n/a"
I started base miles a week before my last cross race of the season.

No on Crossocalypse, maybe on the Team Mack cross.
And F*&% Froze Toes aka Wreck Fest. It never fails, every year that race is an absolute wreck-fest.
