I am debating getting a front fender for my trusted hard tail...I like the THE version that goes on the down tube.....any thoughts? Does it make me less of a hard arse or is it an appropriate thing to do..
I hate getting muck in my face during sloppy rides.

I can't imagine a "downtube" version keeping anything off your face, that the downtube itself won't.

I use this one and it is very effective. It's cheap and easy to take on/off too.

Good for keeping poo out of your face. I think it's fun to have a muddy face at the end of a ride. Makes me feel Gnar.

I run a fork-mount (dork-mount?) T.H.E. front fender on both my mountain bikes. Keeps my face clean.
I photoshop it out of my riding shots as needed.
