Mountain Biking - Trek 4300 vs Specialized f7

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am new to mountian biking, looking for my first bike "made" for the trails. I have been looking at Trek 4300 ('09 model) but just found a bike shop selling a Specialized f7 ('08 model) for about the same price. He states it is the same bike essentially... any ideas? btw, the Trek is going for $410 on sale and the f7 is $399 on clearance. I'll be riding (eventually) at Fort Custer and Yankee Springs in Michigan if you are familiar with them.

I've got the 2008 Trek 4300, and it's pretty sweet. Fits me great, takes a beating on the trails and keeps on ticking. Can't speak for the f7, though I do like Specialized in general (my road bike is a Specialized).
I plan on upgrading to a bike capable of handling more serious track, but for a starter, the 4300 is a damn nice bike. I'd definitely recommend it.
