Mountain Biking - OOPS! Trek 4300 vs CANNONDALE f7

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am new to mountian biking, looking for my first bike "made" for the trails. I have been looking at Trek 4300 ('09 model) but just found a bike shop selling a Cannondale f7 ('08 model) for about the same price. He states it is the same bike essentially... any ideas? btw, the Trek is going for $410 on sale and the f7 is $399 on clearance. I'll be riding (eventually) at Fort Custer and Yankee Springs in Michigan if you are familiar with them.

My friend has the Cannondale F7 and it is a pretty nice bike, decent component groups and brakes. I say in that price range your cant really go wrong with either.... which do you like better frame wise when riding?
They're pretty much equivalent bikes. I'd opt for the disc version personally. They're available in both brands.
With the Trek you get the Alpha Black frame, so if you decide to upgrade you can upgrade to the equivalent of the 4900. Not so with the Cannondale.
