Today I tried riding down a dirt road on my MTB but couldn't because the road was soft. I was wondering if the Katy Trail does the same thing on warm days in the winter. I would like to go down there and ride this week but I'm afraid that the surface will be soft from the warm weather that is predicted.
Anyone have experience with this?

I'd assume it would be fairly soft now with all the rain and warmer temperatures we've had recently.

Here's a thread from the touring forum last spring you should check out:

The short answer is all depends. The trail dries quickly and most times it is fairly good a short time after a rain. Our problem right know is that it is frozen every morning but it will thaw on a nice day like today and be mush because their is still a layer of frost below it. As the frost slowly comes out it can remain mushy for some time. I ran on some of it today and you could have biked on it but there would have been some soft spots. Tommorow it is going to be warmer yet and it will get softer until the frost is completely gone. out here the frost can get in and be completely nonexistent several times a winter. We also have a trail conditions site on the bikekaty.com website where folks will respond quickly to a question like this. Good luck.
