Mountain Biking - handlebar conundrum

The only flat bar bike in my stable is my mountain bike which I've had for about 2 years. It's got some 5 or 10 degree risers on it.... and I'm never comfortable.

It seems the "roll" angle (flight term, as in yaw,pitch,roll) is the wrong way.... and should be more like a motorcycle or mustache bars where the back of your hands face out, instead of inward.

It's never bothered me that much since I'm only on the bike for an hour at a time... but I'm planning some longer trips (cx style) and want to be comfortable on the bike.

Thoughts?

Stumbled on this pic in another thread... the bars look a little strange and not too "mountain bike typical"

but would I be crazy to try something like that out?

That's not practical for actual trail riding.

When I have to stand and move around on the bike, The handlebars need to be pretty parallel to my shoulder so I'm not in a awkward wrist position.

It appears to me that alot of rigid SS'ers use those. I installed a generic set on a friends bike (Origin 8 Space Bar) and I thought they were great. I wouldn't have them on my FRHT, but a plain ol' trail bike would be fantastic.:thumb:

Maybe the sweep is less than it looks in the photo. Regardless, I don't think I'd be comfortable with something like that.

All preferences, I suppose.

The most comfortable bar that I have found is the TiTech Hellbent. Its minimal rise and minimal sweep. They make a few different ones, and I honestly don’t know which one I have bit it is a good bar, and light weight too. I know that to each his own, and comfort is a personal thing, but the Hellbent works well for me, but your mileage may vary.
