Well, in my quest for buying a mountain bike, I was ready to buy a 2004 Giant Yukon for $399 until my LBS found me an even better deal. He got me a Iguana Spring edition (dream silver/silver w/ Manitou Shock) for $479!
Is this a great deal? Whats everyones thought on this bike? The guy said it was a 2004 Spring Edition, but I see nothing about them on the Giant website. Is it really a 2003? If so, am I better off with the 2004 Yukon or getting the 2004 Iguana for $499

Thanks!

I wish my LBS has the silver one in stock. But my yellow/silver '03 Iguana is equally awesome. I am having a blast with it.

Get it. The differences between the '03 and '04 versions are probably inconsequential. Don't get the Yukon! You're much better off with the Iguana if you can afford it. Like pletcgm said, "I have that one and love it!!!"

I got the Yukon ($430). I'm very happy with it. But it came with crappy Scorpion Tires that grip absoluetly nothing. I swapped them for Panaracer Fire XC tires from my old bike (also a Giant). The 04 Iguana comes with WTB Weirwolf tires and a RockShox fork.

I'd advise you to check the exact components to see how they match up. The Silver/Silver sounds cooler than the midnight blue of the 04 Iguana (My Yukon is ALL BLACK, I like it ;-)). Be extra careful about the braking system. The 04 comes with Hayes MX-2 (they work great for me and I'm 265 lbs).

Oh and teh "spring editions" ... I talked to the guy at the bike shop about these. They're last years models with "upgraded components". Basically, they're a transition between last years and this years models.

In any case, I'm sure you'll be happy with Giant. My '97 Giant has served me loyally till this month before it started falling apart. Seven years is a lot of service for a bike. Giant has a great reputation and you should be happy with ANY of their models.

Giant is known for their "spring editions" they completely unannounced upgrade the crap out of their product line for whatever reason. I dont know the specs on this bike so I can't say whether its a good deal or not but given what I have seen in the past, they do bring their lower end stuff up to a more mid range level of performance and components.
