I finally got sick of thinking about what fork to get for my Sette Shadow so I snagged a 55 r from Jenson for 209 out the door. I did this over buying used to a) get a brand new fork and b)make sure I get a warrenty c) it was a damn good price.
I talked to a guy that wrote a review of the frame on MTBR who is running an 140mm AM 2 fork and he said he wouldn't consider running a fork with less travel so I figured what the hell.
The AC on a dj1 (that I was also considering) is 490mm on the 55r its 521mm, considerable but not to huge. I also figured out that it is pretty easy to lower the fork if need be. I think this will work out well and not throw off the geo to much.
I need to say thanks to chelboed for the idea of the HTFR build and the fork. I hope we can ride soon. Bring the hick too. :thumb:
Hmm...I don't think you can lower it any more. I believe it's set at 140mm and can be extended to 160. (Unless you wanna MickeyMouse it ;))

Let me know what you think of the fork. My frame is feeling a bit bland when it comest to turning. Plus it feels a bit weak IMO. It's probably more than fine for the small crap I'm doing, but peace of mind is needed. Plus for 120$ I could sell my current frame and probably make money. Or, I could break my frame, get a new warranty frame, sell that as a new frame, and get another one. . . Not sure how logical any of that is, but I dont care.

I found this post,(http://forums.mtbr.com/showpost.php?p=3958563&postcount=30) and from the looks of it adding a spacer on the bottom would control how far the stanchions can extend.

I stand corrected...that's a "down low" 55
I like the 140mm setup but wouldn't mind trying out the 160 at some point.

I don't think I'll be able to get away with 160 but I wouldn't mind trying out 120 at some point but I think I will just ride it the way it is for now.

Yah...you know Kansas doesn't have the "extended DH" crap that other fortunate (spoiled) places get to enjoy:( Still has to be XC'able.

Well they are under clear anyway, come to think of it, you cant really feel them when you run a fingernail over it. The picture really exaggerates it
Stealth style...diggin it dood.
Can't wait to see the rest. What you need is just a hint of gold on that black beast...RF Diaboluse X-Type BB cups...Maybe gold hubs...or black hubs/spokes/rims...but gold nipples
YES!! I LOVE GOLD NIPPLES!

Cool to see someone else putting together a Shadow - Looks cool so far! I dig the black stanchions on the fork, you'll have to post your impressions once you ride it. Interested to see it complete too.
Here's mine in winter mode, with Nokian Studded tires... The build will change as it gets warmer out (bars, stem, brakes, maybe wheels). Apologies for crap photos.

Looks good man but where the heck were you when I was asking about the frame like 2 months ago...
Your bike does look really good. Mine will be a while before its done, gotta to pay for books. At least this will be a lighter semester so I can put in more hours.

;) Two months ago I was probably combing threads here and at mtbr looking for more user info on the frame. It was a christmas present to myself, and I've not really had a chance to ride it to its full intent. Only on snow trails so far.
I know how goes workin' up the slow build, I was lucky and have enough spare parts around. Yours is going to look sweet as it gets built up, will be watching this thread...

Alright revival and update.
I'm keeping the 55r, I am tired of looking for a different fork and the price I paid was good and I don't think I'll be able to get my money out of it. I have a warranty and a spare bike...anyway.
Add to the build list
BBB Freedom stem- thanks chain love.
And on the way:
WTB Dual Duty FR Wheelset
FSA Pig Pro
I am up in the air on cranks I am leaning towards these
https://www.cyclestore.co.uk/images/products/Xtra/20033.jpg
But they are twice the price of 08 Hussefelts. I really like the raw finish and I guess I could do the same with some paint stripper.
I also need a rear derailleur recommendation

looks sick man.
I agree do some gold accents.
From what I've read XT is supposed to be tough derail. stuff.

Has to be SLX. It'll look pimp with the rest of your build and strong as, well, anything else out there.

Alright. I am pretty set on the Truvativ cranks but now I am confused about the bottom bracket sizing. I am planning to run a single ring so would i need a 50 or 56mm chainline? I guess I am just not used to bbs being measured like that

Also does anybody know if there is any physical difference in the 1 ring and 2 ring version of the Truvativ cranks other than the extra ring and the bash? I can get the 2 ring cheaper and its like getting the bash for free.

No, the single uses the same arms, and has holes to mount the smaller ring on the inside. Its the chainrings you get that are different. The single has the more "solid" ring (more metal,) and the doubles rings have more holes in them. Know what I mean dude? Less metal, typical chainrings. Damn its to early, to little coffee.
I apologize in advance if that makes absolutely no sense, I know it probably doesn't.
