Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - My Neck of the Woods

Missing the opportunity for pics on Dec 27th, I made sure the camera was ready when I set out on yesterday's ride. The pics are taken on the local MUP main artery south of town and down into the dormant "vineyards", past the skeet slaughter range, where shotguns were booming across the creek. It was about 30 when I started and a few portages were required to avoid icy patches under the underpasses. Saw about four other riders in a 2 1/2 hour ride. No "ass was kicked" at all... just a great solo ride with a lot of open land to myself! (And minimal wind for once.)

Man, it would be cool to have a nice long MUP like that and a chance to hammer it when it was empty.

We actually have the beginnings (I hope it's just the beginning) of a MUP in my neighborhood. It's about a 1/2 mile long at this point. It would be cool if eventually it connects all the other neighborhoods in the area and maybe runs even further to the next town.

Does the radioactivity from the power lines help energize the ride?

Great pics, great path. Keep on rolling. You don't have to kick ass everytime, sometimes you just gotta drag ass to the finish.

I don't know what MUP means, but I am guessing it is a bike path or something similiar. Our small town of 20,000 has a bike path that requires crossing a couple of major traffic roads to get to the other side and it is about 6 miles long. We are trying to get it connected to one of the local neighborhoods. Cycling is increasing in our town, so maybe the city council will listen to providing a safer environment on and off the roads.
Little Rock which is about a 45 minute drive has the nation's longest pedestrian bridge that is built over the Arkansas River called the Big Dam Bridge. It connects about 25 miles of bike trails. I like going there, but cannot afford the time all the time to pack up and drive there.

Thank you. MUP= multi-use path. We have between 80 and 100 miles of MUP, not all segments 100% connected to each other yet of course. Yesterday I went 27 in pure out-and-back fashion and never had to put a foot down (except for about four ice patches) or look for a car. And I started near the middle of the main block of MUP did not use up the trail by any stretch. Also the southern segment has very few pesky pedes...ians. Scenery falls a little short of Cali, but we get along.

My first thought when I looked at the pictures was "Wow, that looks like a windy place!" No trees or houses to block the wind either. Sounds like a good ride, though.

You are correct... the wind here can range from unpleasant (yesterday) to absolutely brutal (today). "My Neck of the Woods- Episode 2" is about to be posted and is the story of yesterday's ride, which was not nearly as enjoyable as the pristine and blissful episode one.

There are some sections of our MUP system that do have a bit more shelter, but they come at the price of more pedestrians.

There's lots of trees in Omaha. Remember you are seeing only part of the metro area... an agricultural area outside the city limits. And there are some wooded areas even there.
