Hey, I'm a roadie and I'm looking to do my second tri. This time I think I'll try tri shorts. I'm looking at two of them right now and I really don't know what I'm looking at. There isn't much info on either of these shorts. One is the Sugoi (http://www.sportsbasement.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=21006U!Sugoi)Piston short and the other is a Zoot (http://www.sportsbasement.com/istar.asp?a=6&id=S8MTB54!Zoot)short. Thanks in advance.

You probably can't go wrong with either one. I have three pairs of Zoots and I like them...in fact I did IMAZ in a pair earlier this year and they were comfortable all race long. I also have a couple of pairs of DeSotos and they are pretty good too.

Son has the 2XU singlet tops and shorts. Nice stuff, but pricey. He got his when Gu was blowing out a lot of their clothing and only paid like $20 per pair of shorts and $15 per top. I looked, they don't seem to sell it any more. 2XU wants $150au for the stuff.

So you guys like the Zoot eh? One difference is the 8" vs the 9" inseam. What can you tell me about that? Or is it just a personal choice?

Depends on how long your legs are. I'm pretty short-legged so even the 8" is a little too long for me. For the most part though, it's just personal preference.

Pearl Izumi makes one too. Having put plenty of cycling miles under my belt using Pearl Izumi, I figured the fit and function would work well. Their tri short is essentially the same as their Attack or Microsensor short, except the pad is thinner.

Forget the brand, find something that fits you from a reputable company and you'll be fine.

I bought a pair of Zoot shorts last year and I really like them. Good for you on making the decision to get a pair. My first tri was a bunch of different clothes and my transition times sucked. Did my second pair w/ tri top and tri shorts and the difference was amazing. Good luck in your tri.
