Just replaced my chain with a new PC68, now I have chain skip when hard pressure is put on the peddles . Have checked for tight links but have found none . Length is same as old chain. Casset looks ok.
Any ideas on the problem out there ?

Not knowing the age of the drivetrain makes it hard to diagnose. But what the heck. The cassette may look ok, but may indeed be the problem. Does it skip in all gears under pressure? Or does it seem to only skip in the few you use the most? Does the skipping seem to be coming from the rear or the front. Regardless, check the condition of the chainring teeth also.

If you still have your old chain, do this. Stretch it out on a bench, table, whatever. Measuring from one of the pins, see where 12" hits. A new chain will measure exactly 12". If the 12" mark hits 1/4" or more off of any pin, then you cassette may have worn to the point of needing replacing.

To check for a stiff link, shift the chain into the smallest cog in the back. Now back pedal slowly and watch the chain as it goes through the rear derailleur pulleys. A stiff link will often show up there.

Cassette, bent derailleur hanger, etc. Its important to note a cassette and chain wear together, and often times, actually most times, putting a new chain on an old cassette will cause this.

Locate the replaceable chain pin. Double check that it has been seated completely. If it isn't one side will occassionally catch on a rear cog. That causes the chain to lift and skip. Also, using the black chain pins when you should be using a silver one will cause tha same symptom. The black ones are a wee bit longer (around .013"). I've seen this problem more than once after a chain removal and reinstall.

Thanks for all the help guys . I am suspecting the cassette is the problem and will procede on that assumption.

Check the teeth to make sure they're not too rounded. As said previously, measure the old chain, if it's elongated, your cassette could be worn to the point where it'll work with an elongated chain but not a regular length one.
A replacement 8-speed cassette'll run you 20 bucks.

Changed cassettes and seemed to have solved the problem .
Although the suspected cassette looks OK it must have enough wear to cause the problem .
Thanks Guy's for your help

Problems I've encountered when standing up and hamering on pedals and getting chain skip:
cassette cluster locking nut?? was not tightened down enough.
Quick release was not tightened enough, allowing wheel to be out of alignment. I'm surprised the wheel didn't fall out on this one. I mean the QL had NO resistance.

CRUM and seely were spot on; just a cassette that had worn out :)
