Living Car Free - Country Music and Cycling

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Has anyone ever thought what country and western music would have been like if cowboys rode bicycles? And instead of interstate truck drivers, what if country music songs were written for intercity bus drivers?
"I Hope She'll Miss Me Again (Cause Getting Hit By That SUV Sure Hurts)"
"Wouldn't Take Her To A Race 'Cause I'm Scared She'd Win"
"My Wife and My Best Friend Both Dropped Me, Where Are They Now?"
"What Was It She Yelled From That Car Window?"

Why should any music be job specific? Hell, I know 3 piece suit business people that like Country
a lot and THAT ain't "country" by any stretch.:innocent:

What about the John Prine hit, "There's a Trek in Daddy's yard where all the money goes"?
I'm sure if Gram Parsons had lived, things would be a lot different.
I frequently hum "Six Days on the Road" when I'm on a long randonneuring event.

"This rig's a little old but that don't mean she's slow..." Whoops, that part won't work for me. :)
"Ridin' My Life Away"
"Ghost Bike In The Sky"
"Well they gave him his orders in Monroe, Virginia, said 'STEVE you're way behind time'"- that'll work.
There's also the one that accompanied me on the Last Chance 1200K
I'm back in the saddle again
Out where a friend is a friend
Where the longhorn cattle feed
On the lowly gypsum weed
Back in the saddle again
Ridin' the range once more
Totin' my old powerbar
Where you sleep out every night
And the only law is right
Back in the saddle again
Whoopi-ty-aye-oh
Rockin' to and fro
Back in the saddle again
Whoopi-ty-aye-yay
I go my way
Back in the saddle again
This is a good Gram Parson lyric -- from Return of the Grievous Angel -- for the biking cowboy:
Out with the truckers and the kickers and the cowboy angels
And a good saloon in every single town
Oh, and I remember something you once told me
And I'll be damned if it did not come true
Twenty thousand roads I went down, down, down
And they all lead me straight back home to you

I'll remember to take that old dog with me when I leave and the Beaver and I ride out to the fishin' hole...

You picked a fine time to leeeeeave me Lucille,
With four wornout pads and my commute all down-hill

Has anyone sent in any of these suggestions to Willy Nelson yet?
Imagine if John Wayne and Clint Eastwood rode bicycles in the cowboy movies. Or even having a movie like "Smokie and the Bandit", about an cycle courier. Do you think that bicycles could make it in popular culture?

And what if Ralph Cramden had ridden a bicycle? "One of these days, Alice... one of these days; Bang! Zoom! A trip to the LBS!!"
(perhaps I should've posted this in the Clydesdales forum)

It would be amusing to see what happened if Lance Armstrong starred in a movie as a bicycle cop, especially with Jackie Chan as a stunt coach. What would Lance be riding over, besides New York cabs. ;)
