Went out an bought a Santa Cruz Chameleon today. I managed to find a dealer in my area which stocked them (although the one I bought was the only one they actually had in I think, but I'm not complaining), I had admitadly overlooked them previously for various reasons but saw them and thought may as well have a look. Went in and it turned out they had one in the sale in the size and colour I wanted for about £500 less than I was expecting to spend!

I know, this thread is worthless without pics but they're doing a checkover before they sell it to me and are swapping out the forks so will be picking it up later in the week. I'm just really excited and felt the need to post. Will try and gets pics up of it in its new home, or preferrably out on the trails, ASAP.

That is all.

Only picture I'm interested in is the one of you taking it off the 15 footer.

If you read that thread carefully I say in it that I'm not capable skills wise atm, but would like something that should be able to handle it.

Picture of you taking a 15 foot drop or I consider you a hack.

Meh, w/e. I would say what I'm starting to consider you but it's a public forum :p:p

What is a hack anyways, not a term I'm familiar with.

Without a pic,...its like showing a little kid a jar full of candy.

Although I'm sure its a sweet ride.

No, highest I've done is probs bout 8ft. If I do anything bigger I'd worry about my bike falling apart (really is that bad) but there are bigger ones around which I'd love to try.

Meh, the new one has extra gusseting and a warranty. Also looks like I've got longer travel forks on mine.

As long as I find out how tough it is before the warranty runs out. I doubt I'll reach the bikes limits though.

Don't worry about it, Ralph. That picture is not even a Chameleon. See the rear shock mount on the left?

Be wary of uses that may void that warranty you speak of, Count Hackula.

I got this directly from Santacruz website:

"Chameleon
Limited Frame Warranty
Santa Cruz Bicycles will repair or replace at its option any frame it determines to be defective. The warranty will be in effect for two years from the date of sale and applies to the original owner. This warranty does not cover custom finishes. All 15 foot to flat landings will be covered under the Dheorl clause in our Warranty Statement Package.

Limited No-Fault Replacement
Santa Cruz Bicycles will make replacement parts available to the original owner at a minimal charge in the event of a crash or other non-warranty situation. "

Dheorl-

See, you went and found an appropriate bike for your purposes without much help whatsoever from the cadre of clowns on this forum. Some rock gardens and 3-4 ft. drops should keep you busy for quite a while.

I wanted a Chameleon at one time but ended up with a Kona.

Congrats and have fun with your new ride! :)

Oh and...did you want me to flick Junkyard in the forehead for you?

From what I understand, a flick in the forehead qualifies as foreplay to Junkyard.

What kind of animal is getting killed by your rotor? Is it a squirrel?

That's okay. I can get a bit rougher if he doesn't respond.

Well, I figured that it wasnt your bike, because you know us mountain bikers, we (at least I do) love to hear about small animals getting chopped up, so you would have told us about it. :)

Someone did suggest the chameleon on here, and I was looking at hardtails before so I thought what the heck, I'm sure I can live withouth a squishy.

It looks even more pimp now that they changed the forks, will be swapping out the saddle and possible grips for something else soon. I am gald I bought from that shop though, the guy said I get a 5 year warrenty with them and free services for life.

Soz, still no pics but by the time I'd ridden it home and played on it it was dark.

If anyone feels like flicking junkyard then feel free.

I was wondering about that santa cruz pic as well but initially figured it was just an older version, got caught up on thinking about chameleons and momentarily forgot they made other bikes :)

Just wondering chelboed, why Ralph? Also I said 15ft to slope, I ain't never going to do anything approaching 15ft to flat.

Still haven't taken it out on the trails properly yet.

When I rode it home from the shop I picked up a thron but it was staying in, so the tyre wasn't going down. Noticed it later on when I went out to fit a front crud catcher. On the ride home I could hear so much grit pinging off the downtube that I felt it had to be done. Anyways, pulled the thorn out and sure enough a nice hissing sound appeared. Took the wheel off, mended the punture and then I had a bit of trouble getting the disc back between the pads. Got it in eventually but now the outer pad rubs and I don't know what to do.

Will probably be taking it back into the shop, don't want to damage my precious new bike and I've never used discs before so don't really know what needs to be done.

If anyone knows what the problem is and a simple way to fix it then I'm all ears.

Let's make it easier. If he can reseat his wheel so that the disc doesn't rub, then he can flick me.

"Dheorl"...I think I make that noise when I throw up at the end of a "cissy" XC race..."DHEORL".;)

Spend some $$$ on a Specialized Epic, Santacruz Superlight...or some other light/fast "cissy" bike.

Then drop a small wad of cash on a Jamis Komodo at jensonusa.com for your drops. I know it's a hardtail, but it's a pretty burly frame. You being at such a "cissy" weight...shouldn't do too much damage to it.

Other than that...build a Heckler with a PIKE or 36 TALAS and keep your drops to a minimum.

15 foot to anything will make you exempt from the wuss category :thumb:

Ralph is a term of endearment for you. It also means "Puke". I tend to give my own nicknames based on what you exhibit 'round here. I know it's not fair. It's not an insult.

So it's just that the wheel isn't sitting in the middle? It looked like the pads had got closer together, had a bit out touble putting it back in, but I'll try just shifting the wheel across slightly.

you didn't squeeze the brake levers when the wheel was off, did you?

I think they probably got knocked, it's all fixed now though so took it for a ride earlier today. Awsome bike, I think the tyres are a bit to heavy duty for what I'm doing atm, but it still is a speedy little thing. Mind you, compared to my old bike virtually anything is a speedy little thing.

Managed to get a pic or two though, forgot about it right up until the trail meets the road again, strangely enough I was thinking about other stuff up until that point, mainly OMG that tree's coming towards me faster than it should be.

I know it's not the best pic in the world and tbh theres no good excuse for it, but meh.
