So I'm riding home yesterday and I'm approaching an intersection that has a gas station on the right. There's a old beat up pickup truck leaving the gas station and crawling toward the street. The driver is looking right at me but he keeps rolling like he doesn't think I have the rightaway. He says something to me but with the wind and other car noise, I couldn't make it out. His truck stalls out just as I reach him and he says, "I got no brakes, dude".

Since you were on a fixed gear, you were able to skid stop, I assume....

I'm sure he said "I got no brains, dude".

I was just thinking the same thing myself. Can't wait till he comes to that level crossing with the train going the other way: "oh no, I really don't have any brains!" (those who remember a particularly stupid movie called "Canonball Run" might recall that one).

His truck stalls out just as I reach him and he says, "I got no brakes, dude". Response (while whipping out paper/pen or PDA and looking at his license plate): "Thanks for letting me know."

The cops do know about this guy now, right?

If I was in a car with a stick shift, I think I would be able to limp home (or to a service station) but I wouldn't try and drive it once I knew the brakes were gone...
