Advocacy & Safety - Got hit today; it couldn't have gone better.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Finally got hit for the first time today. This is my first ride since moving to Huntsville AL. I end up hit within riding a mile!! Actually, it couldn't have gone better. It was low speed at a T intersection behind a strip mall. I was turning left from the middle of the T and i was hit from the right. There was a pine tree obscuring both my and the motorist views. Overall, I would say I was more at fault.
I was able to get up right away while the driver helped with my bike and bag. Another driver stopped and took down all the information for me. The driver who struck me gave me and my rig a ride back to my hotel. She was very apolagetic and wants me to call even if there is nothing wrong just to let her know how I am. She owns a salon and wants to give me a hair cut.
So far, there seems to be nothing wrong. My hand got a little smushed between the bars and the car. The steam spun around within the threaded headset and the brake spun on the bars. I'm not sure if the bars actually bent or not. Right sholder is a little sore, but not bad.
Of course I knew I would get hit eventually. i'm just wish they all could go this well.

Glad you're OK.
Your next recourse depends on how the hairdresser looks.
"drive back to the motel","wants to do my hair"
This has all the makings for a Mickey Spillane movie.
Hope Flatmaster is well and lets us know how this adventure turns out.

Ah, VERY aggressive marketing.

I've never been hit, but I've thought about it a lot. It's great this one turned out well - I suspect that in a "good" hit like this, the fear of knowing it is about to happen must be the worst part.
Maybe she digs you. ;)
Glad you're not severely hurt.
I was hit once, just over 32 years ago, in a classic left cross. Although the motorist was at fault, I believe I might be able to avoid a collision or at least to reduce the severity of my injuries in a similar situation today, because I now ride more visibly and farther from the curb, have much better brake pads, wear more visible clothing, and wear a much better helmet. Safety technology and my riding skills have improved over the years.
Having been hit once arguably makes me a safer cyclist, although I admittedly do less riding than I otherwise might.

I'd take the free haircut and call it even. Those are hard to come by. Usually you have to enlist in the military to get one.

We definitely do need to know if she was attractive.

Actually, as I recall, I was charged for my haircuts in Marine Corps boot camp... they took it out of my salary. That was in 1975. It sucks just a bit paying for something where you have no choice, but that is the way it sometimes works in the corps... sort of like spending pert of your salary on boot polish or dry cleaning (well, I did get a uniform allowance of a few dollars per month, but it didn't cover all of my expenses).
Of course, the haircuts in boot camp were the last ones I ever got for $1.50. ;)
glad you're okay - yes, it'd be nice if this was as bad they get.

Glad to hear you're alright and judging by the help you received, it sounds as though there might still be a few decent people out there.

Stop that talk about things being "inevitable." I haven't been hit, and I don't expect to be, either.
I hope you didn't jinx all of BF readers!:D

As of 1989, they still charged for your haircut, and as of 1998, they charged for haircuts at officer candidate school as well
Funny how that is.
