hey all, have a quick question. need a bottom bracket for pair of TA cranks (italian thread). I have heard the TA bb I was goiing to get slips. Any ideas about what I could use with the TA spindle, which is proprietary. can I use a campy spindle, or can I use TA spindle with Camply. What aRE you other guys using with TA's

thanks

I run standard taper 113mm Phil Wood bb on a couple of bikes and love the combo. Nice straight chain line and they have every kind of mounting rings available to match any frame threading.

Did I notoce you run this on a cinelli somewhere? TA uses a 103 or 107 mm spindle, but you run the 113 with no probs? I'm looking to install on a cinelli.

-thanks t

The cranks I run from T.A. are the Cyclotouriste. They have the lower "Q" factor of any cranks that I know of. They are really straight arms. They have been run on a Cinelli Track and Cinelli super corsa. Both of which are 70mm Italian B/B shells. I don't know about their adaptation for other T.A. Cranks though. The Phil b/b's allow for lateral adjustment of the crank spindle about 5mm total. This will allow you to "Exactly" position the chain ring into alignment with the rear cog. I use this B/B on all 8 of my f/g bikes because of this alignment option. Some are used with 111mm because of the crank/frame demands. That, and the bullet proof nature of the b/b and the rebuild option is reason enough to go with Phil Wood gear. They cost more but once you get them installed you can forget about them and ride them for 50,000 worry free miles. Send them back to the factory and they will rebuild them for cheap.

I've had good luck with TA BBs and TA cranks together....what do you mean "it (the BB) slips"? The lockrings? I tighten the heck out of them and have had no probs.

it will slip because on italian threaded BBs both cups have standard threading, unlike english that has the right side reverse threaded. because the right cup on an italian BB isnt reverse threaded, the forward pedaling motion loosens the right cup over time. you just have to check it and tighten it occasionally. this will happen with any italian threaded BB.

i might have the cup sides mixed up though...

Thats why they invented blue Locktite. Use it and it will never come loose until you apply a wrench to it.
