So we saw Jurassic Park 2 on broadcast tv the other night and I couldn't help notice the mercenary hunter found in Mombassa in a barroom drinking (couldn't tell if it was gin) was named Roland (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYo_JBeHd6A).

Anyway, JP 2 is weird. My wife and I both read the book to kill some time whenever it came out and we were struck that it was a sequel to the JP 1 movie, not the JP 1 book (Jeff Goldblum was back in JP 2 and survived in the JP 1 movie but died in the book and that change was a good thing 'cause he was about all the JP 2 movie had going for it, well, him plus the dinosaurs)

Aside from John Lennon, Warren Zevon was probably the coolest dude to walk the planet.

Tom Petty is pretty cool.

I can agree with this. I saw him many years ago when he was the backup band to Patti Smith. Her band played waaaaaaayyyyy better than his.

But he has shown some pretty good staying power. He continues to crank out some decent stuff.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who noticed the Warren Zevon link in JP2. I noticed that when I saw it in the theater all those years ago.

Did you see JP3? If not, here's the plot synopsis:

People get onto the Island;
People get stuck on the island;
Mayhem follows: Dinos chase people around the island, killing a few, eating a few.
People rescued off the island.

End of movie, end of franchise.

I cried when he got engaged to LuAnn. (http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/060511/135612__king_l.jpg)

I missed it and yet I should have been more attuned to it back then, go figure. Better late than never, I guess.

Tom Petty is pretty cool.

I saw him backing up Bob Dylan in concert. That made for a cool show.
