Fifty Plus (50+) - Bike Theft Vindication!!!

OK so about five years ago my beloved Trek Antelope was stolen from my driveway. It was my first "real" bike after riding a Murray beach cruiser for many years and I was very attached to it. It was the first bike that I ever took on mountain trails. And after riding the clunky cruiser it felt like a dream! :D

So look what a neighbor had for sale in his front yard! My stolen bike's brother (or sister)...almost identical except for the color of the decals ( and I prefer this blue to the lime green of my first Antelope).

Hi Alice! Wow, what a great story! I've had things stolen (car, jewelry, camera) but not returned or replaced by something else so I know the feeling of loss. Yours had a very happy ending -- I can only imagine how you feel!

Had a North Face tent and a pair of good down sleeping bags stolen at Harper's campgound at Seneca Rocks in the late 70s, while off climbing. We suspected a group of kids in a van of doing the deed. Lo-and-behold....their van was parked at the climbing parking lot. Contacted the State police, who showed up quickly, and I made several trips up to cliff face, only to be told that "Mikie" had the keys. Finally, Mikie came down, unlocked the back of the van and threw all of my stolen gear into my arms. The look on his face, when the cops handcuffed him, was worth every minute spent tracking them down. There was a "local" traveling through the lot in a pickup truck and the cops stopped him because of a gun in the rear window rack. It was loaded and he was so busted...always felt bad about that! Still have and use this gear!!!

That's great that you found another Trek 800 cause they are such good, reliable bikes. I've flipped several of them. When I get one, I let freinds know that I've got a Trek 800 and someone always wants it. I'm glad you have another.

I've noticed they get a little more respect lately than they used to...because they have withstood the test of time?

I'm guessing mine is a 90?

Here she is with new slicks, grips, alloy pedals, a blinky, relubed and adjusted headset, no dork disk and painted spokes...:D

I believe mine is an '88, though I haven't verified that by checking the serial #.
At least '88 is when I bought it new from the shop, as I recall.

As you can tell, mine's just a "Beater/commuter" these days...but extremely reliable considering I don't do much in the line of preventive maintainance.
