Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Bicycle signage survey

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If you have 15 minutes to kill, here's a web survey on bicycle signage.
From TheWashCycle.com (a bicycle advocacy website in Washington DC)
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=_2bdmAJQR4_2f7OrJANA0wbg2Q_3d_3d
This survey will provide preliminary data that will help the East Coast Greenway Alliance to get a proper hearing from the national committee now considering changes to our bicycle-route, roadway, and trail signage. If you can spare 12 minutes to fill it out, you will have done much to help this important process.

finished. The helmeted guy could easily be seen as a motorcycle; I prefer the old style signs. Also prefer the signs which spell out "bike route", etc.

What is it with these guys and all those signs of Star Wars Storm Troopers who have lost their speeders?

I preferred the signs with the riders, and as I told them in the optional comments, it adds the human element. Also really liked the Shared Road sign with bike and car.
NOT DONE! What a waste of time and dollars! Who is proposing we change signs? The "New" ones provide no clear difference or clarity. I smell pork.

Not really necessary. A bike is a bike.

I had nothing better to do right now so I wasted it doing that survey.

As a trail researcher myself I can see the need for things like this so I spent some time completing it.

I did not like the signs that did not have a bicycle frame drawn in regardless of whether or not a rider was depicted. The bicycle frame makes the symbol more clearly a bicycle, to me.
I like the look of the newer symbol but it really needs the frame instead of just circles for wheels. With out the bicycle frame, it could be either a highly stylized motorcycle or a highly stylized bicycle. I really like the more classic bicycle symbol WITH the rider as seen in the MUP crossing sign.
The best symbol would be the more modern style with frame, with rider, and with the rider's legs offset. And despite me being pro-helmet, leave the helmet out of the signs to make them more clear.
Oh, and I think the rider should ride more upright, but that's just me. :D

A bike is a bike. A bike is meaningless without a human.
Done. I usually chose the more visible options. Liked those with the white, oval frames.

Just 'cause I didn't want to do what I'm supposed to be doing.

Survey complete. Hopefully more drivers will take the survey and the "improved" signage will make it safer on the road for cyclists.
A bike is meaningless without a human.
I would agree. However, many of us view a well made bike as a work of art and a peice of art can stand alone. For example:

Done - I prefer the blue signs as they are more visible. I prefer the framed bicycle, but should include a rider. I also prefer printed directions/with images for clarity.
done I prefer blue signs and simple symbols

I preferred the signs with humans also, though they are not perfectly to my taste.
