What's your overall distance goal for 2009? On Bikejournal and BigDogs (both are distance logging sites) we enter what we hope to reach at the beginning of each year, so I thought I'd ask the question here too. :)

Every year for the past 11 years, my goal has been 10,000 kms. I've made it 3 of those years, and came really close 4 other years. But the last 3 years I've really struggled with that goal because of my education and all the work I do, and I've only managed about 3/4s of that distance.

This year, however, I will finally be finished school in April ... and will be free to RIDE!! :D So the 10,000 km goal is back on!! :D

Well it's not gonna be easy to find the required time but my goal for 2009 is 10.000km, and at least 500km per month (which is enough now in the winter). I started biking seriously just one month ago but I like it alot! What a great way to exercise. This summer I'm thinking about doing a trip from Jakobstad to Vuoggatjolme (840km) in four days so it sure is time to get out on the road alot now.

My goals for 2009 are:

Min: 1000 km per month.
Max: better my 2008 personal record (17425 km).
Do a 370 km ride I've been planning since 2007 (my longest 1 day ride is only 250 km so far).
A sub 5 1/2 hrs century would be nice too.
Not sure about the Century - a - Month. Did it in 2008, but I don't like the (self - inflicted) pressure when the month is ending...

8000 km for the year (this year was 8200 km)
Start with a flèche Vélocio
London-Edimburgh-London
Complete a 1000 km Audax
Défi des Fondus de l'Ubaye in the Alps (Barcelonette valley)
Add a century a month to get warm
Plus many others:D:D:D

I did 7148 kilometers last year and hope to do at least that much again.
However, most of my miles will be home-work-home or home-grocery store-home.
Hopefully I will get a few more days touring that last year.

I ride with consistency 9 months of the year. I'll set a goal of 400 miles a month for March, April, October & November. I'll also set a goal of 600 miles a month for the May, June, July, August & September. 4600 miles in 2009; 5000 miles if I include the random winter rides done here in Chicago.

Like I've posted before, I'm not a fan of keeping track of overall miles. Instead my goals this year are rides to complete.

The biggest is "Crush the Commonwealth", 400 miles from Pittsburg to Philadelphia at the end of May. Not sure whether I'll be ready for this or not, but it's the first goal.

Goal for year is ten thousand miles. Last year was a little over 9000 and the year before was just under ten thousand, so it should be do-able. Plus, my wife has started to ride long rides on the tandem, so it'll be easier to build mileage this year.

Congrats on finishing school, soon.

My goal is simple: earn the SR title, by completing 200k, 300, 400 and 600.

Commuting miles are 6000/yr.(4 days a week, 30 miles each). I won't bother to tally the rest, but the grand total could easily hit 10,000(if I was counting).

We should start a side bet pool on 10wheel's miles for the year. I'll say 17,221.

I better let you know How I am going to ride 20,000 miles in 2009, before you start Betting.
1. I have a Spare Wheel Set.
2. 12 New Tires.
3. Three New Chains.
4. 3 headlights, 3 tail lights.
5. I commute to Dave's house 15 miles r/t.
6. Dave rides his Age Six Days a Week. He is 65 y/o
7. That is 80 miles a ride for me.
8. Dave is a bike mechanic.
9. He fixes my bike before I know something might be out of adjustment.
10. I rode motorcycles 28 years in the rain
11. I like cool riding best.

I'll still play, but I want to bet on you, not against. So, if you say 20,000, then I'll change my bet to 22,151. I have no doubt you can rock over 20,000 if you choose. Not sure if any of the rest of us could keep up.

Just the goal miles will be plenty.
I also ride with Chuck. He has logged some 19,000 mile, plus years.
Dave has been riding 14,000 miles, for several years.
So I am not alone. There are three of us most days. Sometimes 9 riders, so it is not boring.

Chuck and Dave Saturday on a 86 mile ride.

for '08 i was shooting for 10k miles, but ended up with about 8k.

for 2009:

* no overall distance goal. main goal is to improve overall speed (including less off-bike time at controls!)

* another SR series, maybe two

* a 1200k (http://www.davisbikeclub.org/GoldRush/)

I have never kept track of my miles before, but I am going to throw out 5,000 as my attainable goal for the year. I fgure that's a little more than 400 miles a month. My goal is to get the SR award, so in June I'll get my monthly quota in a single weekend!

Mine would be 10,000km this upcoming year. I managed to hammer out 12,000km last year. But now with a one year old son it will be tough to make it to 10,000 this year, but not impossible.

Didn't keep track in '07 or '08, but rode 6,220 mi. in '06 with seven double centuries, so probably a bit less in '07 (5 doubles) and not quite as much less in '08 (6 double centuries).

I'm trying to stay focused on keeping track of each day's ride in '09 and so far, I'm doing okay! The CA Triple Crown folks keep track of my doubles (thanks Chuck and Frank!) so if I get confused, I can always check here:

http://www.caltriplecrown.org/DoublesbyName/RiderHistoryReport.asp?RiderID=729&ClubID=

My goal for '09 is minimum seven double centuries, max probably nine.

Yeah, I'm not really looking to post an overall mileage target either. Whatever I get is whatever I get, but I do want to finish a 1000k and get my R-5000 done this year. Currently giving a serious look at the Hare & Tortoise 1000k in Vancouver Island in June.

Its been a tough Winter, mostly want to big miles in early, like a thousand in April. After that, then I'll just be looking for quality doubles, and trying to setup for at least one moonlight triple.

I've been riding at least 7,000 a year miles for the last 7 or 8 years, but since I've quit running I might go back up to 10k....... like to hook up with anyone interested in sub-ten hour doubles or "open road" triples.

I'm thinking this year is gonna be a good year... I'm feeling ready for going back to long distance, I've fully recovered from PBP, I've got lots of great friends I like riding with, lots of interesting goals for the year, I had a dream about riding long distance last night, so I'd go for 15,000 km.

Hey Fred, are you riding on the expressway.
I wished you guys lived a little closer. I really don't have the time for 80 mile days, but I wouldn't mind getting a few in a month. Take care.

I don't really care. I'll probably manage 5,000 miles. I'm a wussie. One of my riding buddies is going for a million feet of climbing this year. He's on track so far. 37,000' last week. A tough guy to keep up with.

That's not as bad as it sounds. Only 20,000'/week average. And he's married, full time job, two kids.

On my desktop I have an eight-week training schedule for a century ride. That's one ride 100 miles long at the end of the eighth week of training.

My objective is to complete the century training by riding 50 miles out and 50 miles back. Last summer, I was in the seventh week of training and really looking forward to riding in the fall when, on a cold day in September 2008, I cracked the frame of my homemade recumbent bike. That essentially ended the season for me.

Since then, I've repaired the frame and ridden the bike. It is still viable. I am planning to reinforce the frame so it doesn't break again.

I plan to start the 8-week training schedule the first week in March 2009. The frame should be reinforced by then. So, I hope to complete the century by the end of April. If the frame proves reliable, then I'll go ahead and paint it in May.

One of the bike's drawbacks was a seatback that became unbearably uncomfortable after 2.5 to 3 hours of pedaling. So I made a quick fix to make the existing seatback more comfortable. In case that doesn't work, I also redesigned the seatback using an ergonomic (lumbar curve) contour that supports the whole of my back from my butt to my shoulders. That ought to make it comfortable enough to pedal it for hours and hours and hours. Hopefully, twelve hours. I can't imagine wanting to ride longer than twelve hours.

After I paint the bike and give it a comfortable seat, then I will get a pair of black plastic fenders so I can ride it whether or not the roads are wet, and plan for longer tours.

Looks like my goal is going to be a little tougher to get to 10,000 as I broke my collar bone almost a month ago and had to take the month off from riding.
although I rode 1 handed stoker for wife doing some commuting, my doctor probably would have flipped out if he heard that
I think I may be able to recover it in September but my other goal of getting my super randonneur this year is off the table since the collar bone injury.
Oh well there is always next year.

I'm aiming for 5,000mi by year's end. I'm only at 2566 so far, but I had almost 2 months of total time earlier this year when I wasn't commuting to work due to some family issues. That alone brought my total down by about 600 - 700 miles.
I'm at least on schedule to make 4,500 by year's end, and I'm really pushing to make 5,000.

My annual goal is 6,000 miles. Have had no problems in years past, though this year is more of a challenge (took 1 month off for hernia repair surgery and 3 weeks off due to rain and my wife needing a hysterectomy/extra daddy duties). If I can keep my pace for the next 2 months, I'll have it made (I start/end my "riding year" at the end of Oct - coincides with when I switched to road riding several years back).

None of my miles are from commuting.

I was shooting for 10K, but that ain't going to happen. Currently at 5300 or so. Have a 1200K left plus a few 200Ks (to complete a second R-12) and two organized centuries to round out the year of long rides. Commuting, a weekly club ride, and evening rides with Baby Octopus.... That's all not going to add up to 10K.

But remember... it's the quality that counts! :D

My goal at the start of the year was 10,000 kilometers. I'm currently at 8224 with 4 months left, so I'm revising my goal up to 12k.

I had a shoulder injury that sidelined me for 6 weeks in June/July (I biked less distance in July than I did in January!), but my body is healthy again and I'm riding in good form. I just wish I had more time for long rides. I've only done one long ride this year (184km around lake Geneva in Switzerland). 70% of my mileage (kilometage) is simply going to work and back.

Well let's see ....

What with the bushfire that destroyed Rowan's place, my last year of University, my practicum, my kidney stone surgery, sorting and packing all my things, and then recently ending up in a hospital here in Australia for 2 weeks with DVT and then dealing with large daily doses of Warfarin since ....

I think I've managed about 1500 km so far this year.

Re-entrant rider as of last summer. Got a new bike in January, after 30 years. Thought 10,000 miles sounded kinda neat then. Hit that last weekend. No commuting, no touring, just lots of long day rides on weekends and a 6-week summer break.

Machka, this has been a year of transition in your life. Next year will be better - it HAS to be! :-)

The ride was a total blast and I got stronger on the 58 days.
I had too much fun and am now behind in the miles.

May end with about 18,000, but still not bad for an old man.

It was fun riding with the 9 Super South Racer Girls:
