Mountain Biking - Great Ride

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

yesterday it rained here like crazy right as i got off work. i got home, ate dinner, changed and went for a ride expecting to be very muddy when i got out there.I got to my favorite local spot to find the water had not stopped running down the hills and dips were full to overflow.the creek i usually cross to get there was a swamp at least 100' wide(its shallow, and narrow usually) due to the place it emptying to being clogged with debris so i had to take a detour and man what a detour!!!! the hills were like riding uphill in a creek, little dips were deep enough with water to be over my rotors in some spots, the small black water creek i described in a previous post that is normally 4' wide was about 15'wide so hitting the bottom of that hill and going thru fast with water to my knees was so cool.i am getting a cellphone witha camera tomorrow so i can start sending some pics. this trail was too much yesterday.there is a drop about 10' that goes onto a large rock shelf then up a gentle incline that usually has a trickle of water.yesterday, torrent!way fun!! i just cant wait to send some pics of this patch of woods and some of the trails around my house in the middle of the city.as i was at about mile 6 & i remember thinking and saying to God this is too fun to be legal.if you dont like squeaky disc brakes this is not the type of ride to do,or if you dont like packing bearings or lots of other maintenence do not do this stuff cuz it will definetly clog up the works .i know from trying to go again without working on it today.man what a mess but well worth it(i got home at dark last night and did not do squat and it rained again today and i left my bike outside to wash off.wont do that again either.good lesson learned, great time, all good!!

It's been MONthS since I got to ride in the sloppy mud...although I'm not gonna complain about the dry-as-abone trails around here now...today's ride was great!!!
Still there's nothing like sliding around, slinging mud...
Just lose them sissy fenders!!!

im gonna keep my sissy fenders on.im gonna keep my sissy bell too so i can let others on the trails know im on the trail near them.i ride a lot of trails that horses and joggers use too so i have the bell for a courtesy and the fenders cuz i do NOT like the taste (or smell) of horsecrap.
You know that riding muddy trails is the worst possible thing you can do if you want to preserve the trails and help curb erosion...
im gonna keep my sissy fenders on.im gonna keep my sissy bell too <snip>.
Out here on some of the trails I ride, I have a cowbell that I hang off of the handle bars. Not for joggers, or horses. There is nothing worse than happening along a momma bear and her cubs! If they hear you coming, they will, in most cases, head the other direction. :)
So, keep your "sissy bell." : :p

i ride some private land that is 4 wheeler&and motorcycle trails when it is muddy.the purpose of these trails is to get as muddy as possible on whatever vehicle you drive.they are almost constantly being redone to allow them to "heal".most trails that are legal and maintained in my area are being monitered and changed/closed as needed.i thought i had it bad being wary of joggers, deer and horses.bears whoa that is a problemthat i have not faced yet.i keep saying im gonna go to the mountains this fall but i never make it.maybe ill wait till winter.thanks for the info.
let us keep the soldiers that are making it so we can have this forum in our thought s and prayers

Great pics Taz. I've seen them posted somewhere before! I've got a couple of buddies over there right now, and I pray for their success and safety.
