Classic & Vintage - So I took my Paramount into work today...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I work at a bike shop. I went in today to replace the cables, give it a good cleaning and possibly replace the chain. Within seconds, a swarm of well meaning mechanics descended on the helpless bike and now I have:

Ultegra front der.
Shimano 600 rear der.
Tiagra 9spd STI's
Dura-Ace 9spd cassette
Swapped out the rear hub body for a 8/9spd unit
LOOK Carbon fork

All of it except the front derailleur are scrounged parts from our parts bins, not too bad. Bad new is now I owe my boss MORE money so I'm gonna be an indentured servant a bit longer ;)

Lesson to be learned: never bring a shiny vintage roadbike into a shop staffed entirely by tinkerers and parts scroungers.

But you must admit it was fun! My first Capo got alot of attention whenever I rode it to work at Bikecology/Supergo.

My Paramount was originially a frameset (OS no number) built up by a local racer with all 7spd DuraAce with downtube shifters.

I rode it for about ten years, then retired it and bought myself a shiny new canondale with Ultegra 9spd. I rode the brick hard cannondale for about 2 years, then stripped it and put the goodies on the old Paramount. Result = one (1) great riding OS and one stripped aluminum frame in the closet. :D

The attached photo is when the old horse was in its Fixie phase :p
