There is this meat heads racing trucks themes commercial that is annoying as hell. I'd find it for youbut that would mean that I'd have to watch it again.

And in the process make us watch it as well. Thanks for not posting it. It was cool the first 800 times. Not really.

True indeed and humanity is spared an affront.

I wonder how good Dodge trucks really are. I wish they still made them with V-10s. Even Ford still offers those (although you have to buy a F-250 or higher for it though.)

what I don't get is why a V10 and not a V12 or inline-6?

A V-12 is a more balanced engine in theory. I wouldn't mind seeing something that in a pickup. Combine it with technology to use fewer cylinders when idle or crusing, it the MPG difference between it and a smaller engine could be minimal.

Perhaps combine it with a six-stroke design like Bruce Crower's (which squirts water into the piston which immediately turns to steam to use the heat built up. Only bad thing about this design is having to carry a water tank as well as a fuel tank. This would result in a balanced, powerful engine that has a MPG rating that would be pretty decent.

It is a 10 cylinder iteration of the Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C. 2-stroke diesel. They make them from 6 to 14 cylinders.

It plays too much like one of those annoying inFoomercials.

All they need is Billy Maze to come on at the end, hawking his: "miracle" paste-wax-chamois cloth-oil additive, do all, not sold in stores, but wait, if you act now, we'll double your order - just pay S&H............BS, don't need it, don't want it, CRAP!

Boing-Boing's analysis of the Dodge Ram commercials:

http://www.boingboing.net/2008/11/17/that-damn-ram-challe.html

Quick, jump in an oversized American-made truck, see how fast it can go downhill without crashing, next tow a heavy trailer (pensions?) along hair-pin curves without tumbling down a hillside, and then go try to build and cross a makeshift bridge without dropping into a deep gully. During this race to the finish, you're running out of time and trying to avoid disaster. The media in helicopters hover above you, following your every move, waiting to move in. Even if you make it, the group that finishes last is eliminated. It's like we're watching a dream sequence from a movie about a US auto industry exec! Wake up, wake up!

I think Toyota started the trend...err...well, took it to absurdity. Car commercials have always tended to be exaggerated, but the one where they dropped the shipping container into a quarry was just plain pointless.

Kia's marketing department seems to have the essentials of a car commercial down solid:

Meh...there was no reason for that engine. It burned lots of gas achieving just barely as much torque as the Cummins, but at much higher RPM's. The current 6.7 liter is kind of oversized (we never had a shortage of power with the 5.9L), but Cummins makes rock-solid engines. If all you're doing is filling up the bed, the Hemi is enough. If you're towing more than what the 1500 can handle, you want the Cummins.

There was a Ford commercial i saw once, probably in the last year, but it showed a ford truck being dropped out of the back of a landing cargo plane (i think), and the truck supposedly brought the plane to a stop on the runway. It didnt last long on tv though. Im sure someone called BS on it..
