I met up this morning with Chris and Deb, along with several others from a local Vacaville cycling club (at least, I think that's where it's based). It was a pretty chilly and foggy start, and never really got any better as we rode.
We rode the Lake Loop, which goes by Lake Barryessa, and I believe is part of the route on day 2 of the Amgen Tour of CA. Last time I rode this we rode it the other direction, but I had a much easier time of it on the climbs. The climb up Cardiac was (dare I say it?) almost easy!
And just like the last time, I got a flat. Got it changed out just fine, now I need to patch the tube for a spare. I like that Topeak Road Morph pump that I bought. It pumped up the tire pretty quick and the pressure gauge was quite handy.
I also discovered that a muddy Speedplay cleat doesn't clip or unclip very well. I had to clean it out with a stick to get to where I could clip in. Then it was a real bear unclipping. I need to get that cleaned out the rest of the way when the mud drys.
I rode a total of 57.17 miles. Climbed 3279 feet, and finished with an average speed of 15.7. I thought it would be higher as we spent a fair bit of time pacing in the mid 20's. Thankfully I wasn't needed to take a turn at the front. Chris and Deb did a good bit of pulling on the tandem, thanks! :thumb:
Great time. Here's a picture of the tandem duo on the way up the hill:
