I am 350 pounds down from 389 pounds and just at 6 feet. Now that I am feeling up to exercise I wanted to get back into cycling. When I was a teenager I used to ride regularly and even did a few hundred mile rides.

I just bought a Specialized XC Comp. After a ride (maybe 1 mile or so) my arse was as sore as it has ever been. I need to replace the saddle and am looking for suggestions. The LBS are not a lot of help.

I also was looking at the cyclocross bikes and I love them. My passion has been road bikes but I felt like my size was an obstacle, the CX bikes seem to be a tad more stable for a guy my size.

I think I will add a Cyclocross to my collection and I was hoping for some input. I am open to building a bike or just starting with something nice enough to upgrade the components on. I LOVE the disc brakes my XC has.

Riding will be around AZ some rougher roads and loose gravel roads. Riding in California (Coronado/San Diego area) so sand and a less stable riding surface.

I do not want to spend over $2000.00 to start. Suggestions?

Wear bike shorts and some lube cream.

The first few rides are toughest on the ole rumpus, but adaptation usually doesn't take very long... I advise that you don't run out and buy a bunch of saddles until you've given yourself a few rides to adjust. You might be fine with the one you have.

+1 on letting the back side "break in". The first few rides, even coople of weeks can be a bit painful. Shorts are a big help and you might want to look at MTB shorts. They have the lycra liner but have a cargo short outer covering.

With a 2K budget, you have a world of choices for cross bikes. Best bet is to just hit every LBS in your area and test ride them.

It's good thing the cross season is basically over here. It's easier to not want one, lol.

Edit: I have soft spot for the Bianchi Volpe.....

There is a nice bike path that runs from Coronado to Imperial Beach along the Silver Strand. It is probably about 10 miles long.

When I was stationed/home ported at Pt. Loma I would look out at the Coronado bridge and think about trying ride that sucker.

Cornado is a great place to ride.

The silver strand is calling me. My MTB is in Arizona so all I have here is my Electra cruiser, not going 10 miles on it:)

Ill look into the Kona. LBS here has the Specialized Tricross that looks good.

I like the Kona Major Jake and the Specialized Tricross. Your thoughts on the two? 2009 Kona
