Has anyone ever retrofitted stock bushings for bearings? I've heard of others doing it but don't know how to start.
Eric
No I can't see or imagine how to do it, but you say different. I'm assuming some of your pivots are loose. i have 1999 DBR Xlink with the plastic bushings, the first pivot to get loose was at the rear swing link/seatstay 2 years ago, recently I felt a tiny bit of play in the main pivot near BB.What I did is grind those metal ,tube ,spacers between the plastic bushings a tiny, tiny,tiny..... bit shorter, only shave down one end , flat, on a grinder wheel. That will allow the frame members too close tighter there on the bushigs. After shaving the rear swing link junction with the seatstays for the second time I noticed I could not fit the shock reducers between the link as easy as before.... so I cant take any more off there. Use good grease of course. My rear pivots don't wear to bad, nor where the swinglink pivots on the frame. When i did this procedure on the main pivot couple days ago, I took just a tiny bit too much off, cause it's just a bit to tite now. It seems the bushings last ok but they rub, wear, away the metal where they contact the frame, causing a ****ty ride. Mine are tight for now, just waiting for Helix rear shock 6.5 i2i x 1.63 stroke to be rebuilt,3 years old tried rebuilding it myself but needs new parts now.
