Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - 2009 - 1000-Kilometer Month Challenge

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
For those who find a 1000-mile month challenge a bit too challenging for all 12 months of the year, here's another motivational challenge to participate in.
The challenge: Ride 1000 kilometers (~622 miles) in at least one month of the year. Go for all 12 if you can!! :D
Ride ... enjoy ... report!!
If you have managed to cycle 1000 miles in a month, check out the 1000-Mile Month Challenge here: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=498500

July! I always shoot for a 1000 mile month. If I don't get there (which I usually don't...), I change my goal to the 1000 km goal. I've always been fond of metric measurement.
Metric centuries... my favorite.
I checked my miles for last year and discovered that my best months were May and August for some reason. We spent quite a while down last year due to flooding and such:
May 978 km
August 1026 km
Total for the year: 7148km.
Most of these miles are transportation to and from work/grocery along with long Sunday rides.
My plan for this year is to add a few more kms during the winter (better gear... studded tires...). I also hope to add at least 2 multi day camping trips.

763 miles (1228 km) so far this month, including two (imperial) centuries. Got a new bike Jan 2 and have been focused on 1000 miles for January. Good chance of snow and ice early next week, and bitter cold this weekend, so I might not get there. If it stays dry, I think I'll make it; if not I'll claim the 1K km goal and wait for a better month.
January 2009:
1022km / 639 miles. One century; 375km commute, 374km road, 44km FG/SS, 228km Utility (118km with trailer).
Very hot riding conditions for much of the month, which tends to subdue the motivation.

1,009 km for the month of January for me. I guess that means I should sign up for this challenge. I'm hoping January is the hardest month. With lot's of rides in the dark, sub-freezing temps, rain, snow, and fog, I'm thinking it can only get easier. ...well, until December.

1,020 km this month. Cutting it kinda close. Short days, a short month, and some snow days made February tough. I would have been even closer to 1,000 km if it weren't for getting lost on my ride today.

Well, I was not shooting for it, but I made it anyway. 875 miles for Feb: 300k brevet, 3 long Saturday training rides, and a 30 mile daily commute got me there.

The month's not over, but I'm now at 1,014km so I guess I can claim it. Three down, nine to go.
Did anyone manage 1000 km in April?
I managed a lot more km in April than March, but still not up to the 1000 km point.

Just sort of by accident, I made it this month. 622.40 miles showing on bikejournal.com right now. I just rode 11 more miles to get over that. I'm trying to ride more, and have been hitting about 500 miles/month, but don't have that as a set goal, either. But this month had more weekends, we've had more daylight, and it's just working better.

My commute for the summer dropped from 26 mi round trip to 5 ish, but I really want to do a a few centuries and a 200k by the end of the summer. My longest ride to date has only been 60 miles so this would help me train. I will try for 1000k in June and will see what happens.

At 1,150 km for May, and there's still one more day of riding to go.

1150 km in May so far.
I did it!! 1015.9 km for the month of May!! I had to ride 515 km in the past 10 days in order to do it, but today's 100.3 km ride put me over. :D :D
I didn't have any thoughts of aiming for this goal at the beginning of the month, but with 10 days to go, I realized I could possibly do it ... so I've been riding my butt off.

Final tally for May is 1,263.3 km. Likely to eclipse that in June, July and August.

1,508 km in May.

Hope to top 1600 in June and/or July..
1001 km in May...
That was completely not planned.
Not including some unknown number of mountain bike km.

1133km for me in June, 1094km in July... and then it all fell apart. August - good weather and all - is my first month this year with less than 1,000km. Travel and too many other family weekend activities got in the way. Total for August was a measly 842km. It was also my first month of the year without at least one century. :(
But I'm hoping to make up for it in Sept. I'll be riding close to 200k this weekend and a 600k brevet next weekend.

My "big month" is typically August - I shoot for 1000 miles - and made it again this year. Most other months I'm good for the 1000 km (622 miles), except for the down time in the winter due to rains. Then I still ride my mtn bike or old Gitane in a trainer, but do not log the miles. Overall, I shoot for 6000 miles per yr on my road bike, and a month or 2 on my mtn bike.
Here at the Northernmost outskirts of Europe it's difficult to get mileage in the winter as it's snowy and icy. Happily we Finns got a wonderful summertime too. So from May to August: 1112 - 1097 - 1464 - 1773 km.
This is the way the season has gone:
