When will law enforcement do anything about making the streets safe?

When we pay more taxes, I'm sure "they'll" find a way to do it too!!

I pay as many taxes as anyone else. The only real difference I can see is that my mode of transport is less subsidised than the motoring primates.

I have found that in my town, a well publicized death does wonders to raise the safety concerns of the citizens. Everytime there is such a death, a new stoplight/sign/speedbump/other warning device is installed. I can only hope that someday they will figure out how to prevent tragedies.

Chris is spot-on, but most motorists do not understand that the automobile is the most highly subsidized form of transportation in human history. (I suspect air travel is not far behind.)

The other problem is that most traffic enforcement activity is designed to generate revenue, rather than to promote safety.

The answer to Pete's question is: When Hell freezes over!

One might get that impression...

The neat thing about cycling is that you can get a real thrill without topping 35 (or 25!)

Heck, I get more pumped on a slow, long climb!
