I'm in. I'll be there early, I'm helping a guy with set-up so I'll get first dibs.:D

Then I'm going to Yellow Jersey for some Panaracer cement in a can, my LBS doesn't sell it. Anyone want to join me for some sushi/beer? I'm thinking either that place on State or that other place on Park.

My aor may not be going. Depends on what the weekend looks like.

I am still working on getting free to go to the swap. It's been on my calendar for months but some family stuff may bump it.

BTW - Sushi Muramoto Hilldale is the best sushi place in Madison IMHO. http://www.muramoto.biz/

For dessert I would recommend going next door to David Bacco Chocolats: http://www.davidbacco.com/

I'm definitely going. I'll be the guy trying to find purple and green anodized mountain bike rims. Also:

I'm definitely going. Don't know what I'm looking for, just know that I want to get there early and look. I also have to swing by a shop out in Madison that is giving away free entry into the 2009 Madison Marathon ($70 value) with the purchase of some running shoes on that weekend only. Makes for a sweet deal since I was planning on registering for that race and picking up some new shoes anyway.

If you wanna grab some snacks just lemme know.

Muramoto is darn good sushi. What's your preferred place?

I'll be around the swap as well, looking to score a saddle. (used Arione, anyone?)

Look for the loosely organized madisonbiking.com table. If you're looking for a 1970 Gitane TDF fixie our very own Earle will be selling one, along with some other goodies.

Because I know you all appreciate a good beer: while you're in Madison stop into a liquor store and look for Ale Asylum's Mercy Grand Cru. It's quite a nice brew (http://www.thedailypage.com/daily/article.php?article=24456) too bad the taproom isn't near the swap.

What I meant to say was, I'd be glad to if I didn't already have two family events going on that day. As it is, I'm trying to wiggle out of one of them just to make it to the swap in the morning. I'll call you at the swap if I'm there.

Sushi Muramoto = Blasphemy ;)

What - because it's upscale and not a hipster hole in the wall? :) Yeah I might wish it was not in a fancy mall, but the sushi is still the best in town.

It is upscale and not a hipster hole-in-the-wall. But it's also 100% more expensive. I prefer Edo on Fishhatch or Takara out on Whitney way.

I'm interested in going, I've been in madison this long I suspect I should make an effort.

For those who want to get sushi, let's meet just outside the doors to the hall at 11:00. I'll be wearing a black winter coat and I'll be a dork and wear my Brooklyn cycling cap. It looks like this.

I'm planning to go, driving out from Ann Arbor starting Friday afternoon if I can. Sushi and beer for lunch sounds great! I need to go to that classic and vintage bike shop, the one with all the bikes hanging from the ceiling. I don't mind hole in the wall sushi if they make it well.

No, I'd like to go there, too, but just to gawk - their prices are too high for anything else, IMO; I really don't need any NOS C&V stuff. Besides, they usually have a booth at Cronometro, so if I want I can get tires at the swap. Now Capitol Brewery, that is a destination!

The shop I'm thinking of has four or five storefronts within a few blocks of each other. One is for old bikes, one for old parts (here they also maintain the university loaner bikes), one is for tandems, et cetera. I want the old bikes one.

Wow, it's like "Bike Shop 20 questions!"

1) Do they have vintage bikes?
2) Is the name Bicycle somewhere in their name?
...
20) Are they named Budget Bicycle Center?

I'll definitely be there, might bring the Little Brother along. He'd enjoy going for some sushi. I don't have anything specific to look for, although some aero bars and shifters for the '84 Ciocc would be good to find.

Budget's used bike shop is really fun to browse around. They have some cool classics hanging from the rafters.

Getting a free Madison Marathon entry sounds nice, but I generally run barefoot...so that might not be the best deal for me!

I might be bringing Mrs. Road Fan, too. If I do I leave for home right after sushi and bike browsing, if she doesn't come with I stay over Saturday, too.

What's a good cheap motel close to a breakfast place? Last time I came I stayed in the America's Best Value, at 94 and Hwy 18.

Do you want one near-ish the Alliant Site?

If so then Cranberry Creek Cafe and Grill would be one choice with either the Americ Inn or Country Inn and Suites about half a mile away. Get on the beltline (12/18) and the alliant energy center is about 2 miles away. Lum's Family Restaurant is also in that area. These are all on West Broadway in Monona, but really its just as close to Madison.

OR... You could do...

Start by finding The Coppertop restaurant on Schroeder Rd in Madison... and relatively nearby are some decent hotels off of Odana, The Best Western for example.

Ha! I have no problem with Muramoto. Just giving you a hard time. :thumb: I've eaten only at their downtown location and they make some excellent food. The sushi I had there was ok. I guess whenever I get a craving for some raw fish, I always head to Wasabi on State.

sekaijin

Muramoto's west side restaurant is more about sushi than its downtown place. It is kind of a slpurge but it makes for a good evening out combined with dessert next door at the handmade chocolate place and a movie at Sundance.

Wasabe is good too. A co-worker thinks it's better than Takara on State. I have not been to Edo or Takara on Whitney but I'll try them one of these days.

Severian
01-05-09, 02:02 PM
Wasabi on state is pretty good. Muramoto is probably the best in Madison. Takara on state is more authentic, but Takara on whitney has better quality fish. Edo is kind of the middle of the pack.

Wow, we've got a ridiculous number of sushi places in this city. *shakes his head*

I'm thinking about making up some sort of sign so we can all gather and schmooze at the event.

OR

Do we need to agree on a time that we'll all go to lunch?

Well if I can put my vote in now I'd say Edo. Wasabi means, for those who are driving, having to pay for parking. And Edo's got a larger space to accommodate more people.

Change of meeting point for anyone meeting up at 11am for lunch:

Since jbmadtown, Earle and I will have a vendor table at the swap, let's meet at our table so you won't need to leave the hall until the lunch group is together.

Table #48 - marked "Saturday Social Rides" - I will make a sign.

I'm told we have an end-of-row location that's on the left side if you're entering the hall.

See you there!

I am looking for an old Campy front skewer, curved handle. If you see one for $10 or less before 11am, please buy it and I'll buy it from you when we meet at my table at 11am. (willing to risk getting multiples) Thanks!

I actually may have a pair of campy skewers but w/o the loop on the nut side. I'll have to dig through my box of parts. The rear is 120mm though.

Edit: But I see you're looking for a front skewer only not the pair.
