Mountain Biking - New Bike, maximise savings by waiting?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm still considering picking up a new bike at some point in the near future. To a degree I'm happy to wait a few months until making a purchase (as it's winter in the UK, so it's not really that ideal for getting into cycling).
Up until now the retail sales (stores trying to shift stock to tentative buyers due to the UK recession and economic downturn) haven't really passed on to bikes that I've seen. Now there's 17% off from one of the main bike shops I was looking at.
Is it worth utilising this offer, or is it likely prices will come down further in the following months?

THis time of year there are usually some 08's left in stock that sell at a discount.
You didn't say what level of bike you are looking at. I doubt entry level bikes get much cheaper than that, but mid level to upper level bikes might. Course, that's just me, throwing out unfounded babble.
The price range I was looking at was around £850-£1000. Make wise I've been considering a Scott bike of some sort. The 09 Scale 50 was set at a RRP of around £930. With the discounts in place at the moment that appears to be dropped £787.67 which feels like a decent discount?

Sounds pretty good, but still doesn't hurt to ask them if that's the best deal they can make. Or ask them if it might get cheaper?

If you are asking if we feel that the tough economic times will drive the discounts higher, I think you have the wrong forum. You'd want to discuss that with economists.
As far as bikes, they often discount the previous year's stock. The 17% isn't bad, but like B2B said, you can always ask for more.
