Triathlon - So here we are January 2nd.....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The new season is fast coming upon us...
How has everyone been doing this winter for your workouts? Are you ready?
(I was doing great until December when the insanity of the holiday season cut me back to doing 2 or 3 spin classes a week, and thats about all I've done. I haven't been to the pool in over a month - my weakness - and its too cold to run outside... I REALLY need to step it up)
How many events is everyone signed up for so far?
(I'm in for 3, my favorite being NYC, but I plan on more as they open up. )
Any new toys to get you ready?
(I got Wheelbuilder.com disc covers, a Profile Design set forward seatpost, and a nashbar triathlon seat - with the gel front... to protect all my ... parts).
May 31st (my first event) can't come any sooner!
In just a few minutes I am heading to the USAT National Training Center in Clermont FL for a one day seminar let by pro triathletes, about 10 of us from our local tri club are going together. My first race is a sprint on 4/11 the Escape From Ft. Desoto followed by the St Anthony's international distance race on 4/27. After that I am thinking about a 70.3 later in the year with the long range goal of IM Fla in 2010.

My 1st ever Tri will be May 31st -- The Black Bear Tri in PA (Poconos). I'll be signing up for the Sprint, not the Half.
Training has been slow up to this point - I just joined the local rec center for pool and gym access. The "master plan" has a few intermediate events (goals) scheduled:
The Yuengling Shamrock Marathon 8K in March, a couple of Century Rides in March/April and a "Mini" triathlon -- 300 meter swim, 10 mile bike, and 5K.
I'll be using my road bike (Giant OCR Limited) for training and events and was thinking about getting the Wheelcover and Forward seatpost. Keep us informed on their performance.
Train well, train safe, have fun!!

i can't wait at all for the first race of the season. I'm only registered for one race so far (Chicago Olympic), but i'm planning on doing the Batavia and Naperville Sprints, as well as a season closer up at lake geneva half extreme.
The winter training is just starting back up for me... i took a long (too long) break about november to move into my new apartment and then i spent so much time unpacking and then december was here with all of the christmas related stuff so here I am back in the saddle again.
New stuff: Got a fun cycling jersey for christmas, along with a set of aero bars and a pair of cycling shoes. I gotta say, having the aero bars has made riding the trainer so much better... I can just prop the ipod touch up on the bars and watch a cycling video or something. Can't wait for it to warm up so i can get out and learn to handle the new steering.
