Fifty Plus (50+) - Bike-related Holiday gifts

I'm surprised no one has asked this yet (or did I miss it?). What bike-related gifts did you get?

I'll start:
-- 6 pairs of bike socks from TeamEstrogen.com, each in their own TE gift box, from Hubby. They told him they don't put more than 1 item in a gift box -- apparently they don't have any boxes large enough for 6 pr. of socks??? So he opted to pay extra for EACH box (probably figuring it was cheaper and easier than driving to a store to buy a gift and bringing it home to wrap it). In any case, he made some nice choices and he knows how much I love cute bike socks.
-- The Bicycling Guide to Complete Bicycle Maintenance & Repair for Road & Mountain Bikes, from our niece. She researched the books at Amazon before buying and bought the one with the best reviews -- I think she made an excellent choice. I'd been doing the same but hadn't made a purchase yet so I was thrilled to receive it. Now we just need a good repair stand.
-- Velo Wear thermal head band, from myself, to keep my ears cozy on chilly morning rides.

I bought Hubby a pair of Velo Wear knee warmers... he hasn't had a chance to try them yet.

I received: a long sleeve jersey, the Park Tool Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair and a chain breaker tool.

Stuff I bought for my bikes:
Ribby got new Salsa Flip Off skewers, a new Ultegra rear derailleur and a nice used Dura Ace front derailleur, new VP Look-style pedals and new Deda bar tape.
Kemo Sabe got a Topeak Mtn Morph pump and new Oury handlebar grips.
The Stumpjumper got new CB Candy pedals.

New handlebar tape. Better than the basic black that the bike came with.

I bought myself an alpaca/microfiber balaclava because the nylon doesn't have flat seams and is too thin.

I love my bike schwag. Now I have to learn how to use it.

Elite is good, Ron, but go for the stainless steel next time.

We are having an austerity christmas in my family so gifts were simple items- like a box of chocolates or a pair of slippers. Nothing more than £5 to anyone.

Big advantage- Think of all the money I saved in not buying worthless presents that no-one wanted in the first place.

The adults in my family, at least, have limited ourselves to home made gifts for several years.

A bicycling buddy made me a positively beautiful wood "kick stand" for my tandem. It holds the bike up by the captains crank arm. If I get energetic later today I'll edit a photo onto this post. You're all going to want one.

From Santa:
A SRAM Force group minus the cog and chain. The crankset is a work of art.
A pair of Assos winter gloves in lime green and blue. On e-bay now.
A Dura Ace front derailure to replace that fsa piece of sh#@ on my Tomasso.

From Girlfriend: Non bike related, but could be.
A Microsoft 8G Zune. Awesome!
about 5 lbs of gourmet nuts from Harry and Davids.

Gift cards from nashbar, and another from an LBS. So far I've ordered a new honey B17, some natural cork bar tape, and a pair of tektro 200A brake levers for an ATB to tourer conversion I'm working on. The bike is going to be a poor man's copy of a Rivendell Atlantis. I'll post photos when it's done.

Santa and I negotiated before Christmas. I got Santa what she wanted, and Santa got me what I wanted.

Santa left me a Park Tool PCS-9 repair stand.
One of the elves left me a Park Tool SR-2 chain whip and and an MTB-3 rescue tool.

Now, I wish Santa would agree to ride a bike. We'll keep trying.

I think I can count the $100 from the LBS as a nice holiday gift:)

I stopped in to buy a pair of toe covers as mine were 3 years old and really ragged. After I paid for them the owner said he had something for me and handed me a $100 bill. It was for the parts from the 520 changes he sold on ebay for me.

I have s/s bottle cages on my Litespeed. They match the frame and are much cheaper than Ti bottle cages.. :D

A replacement trainer..:):( since the youngest son took the other one to his new home. (did I mention that I hate trainers.........but they are ever so important to me in the winter)

Frome some folks I took on a ride last summer, a water bottle with a picture of a white rabbit on it, a small Arti Johnson tricycle christmes tree ornament (for my volunteer work with club tombay) and a pair of battery operated foot massaging slippers. :roflmao2:

The only bike related gift I got was a gift I bought myself in December. I bought a mini-laptop which I can carry with me on the bike. I got this laptop strictly for use at coffee shops. .....makes posing a little more enjoyable.

My Dad gave me $$ toward a new rear wheel. I'm going to make a ss/fixie!

That's exactly what I got. What a coincidence. :lol: I did get to take a nice ride though. The major streets were almost traffic free, so I could enjoy the sights as I rode along. What a nice gift.

As I slowly work my way back to normalcy... did y'all have a good holiday season?

My kids gave me rollers - haven't had any in years, and I love my new ones.

I asked for nothing so that I could put the savings toward a new bike, but was delighted to receive:

- Ergon grips. These things are really comfortable!
- A short-sleeved jersey. It looks really sharp!
- Over-the-shoe warmers.

I've been blessed with two gifts. First a bumper sticker that simply says "Start seeing bicycles". (Included a photo of it below).
