Got a new bike. Up until recently I was riding a '93 Trek 2200 on loan from my dad but I recently acquired a Bianchi Via Nirone 7. I have only been on three rides totaling about 50 miles but it's been great so far. I went for a ride yesterday and it was pretty nasty out so I had to clean her up. Here's the first pic.

I know. When I left it wasn't raining and the roads were barely wet. I got about six miles into my ride and the ground was soaked and it started to sprinkle. Got her all cleaned up and now everything is ok.

Nice bike!
How do you like it compared to your dad's Trek?

Nice bike!
How do you like it compared to your dad's Trek?
Well, considering the Trek was a 56 cm and I'm 6'4" the Trek was a bit small. I did enjoy riding the Trek though, it was a great bike when it was new. It has 105 everything and was one of the early bikes with Easton carbon tubes. I have noticed that my Bianchi feels stiffer when I really crank on it. My bike also has longer crank arms which feels better. Over all I am very happy with the bike, I feel much more comfortable on the larger bike. I always felt like a giant on the Trek but I feel normal on my Bianchi. I think I may need a slightly shorter stem but other than that it's great.
Congratulations, this is a beauty indeed.

I have a question for some of you guys. I have been having problems with the back of my left thigh/knee area for about a month now. If I go for a ride it will get really tight the night of and the day after the ride and continue for a few days and then it will get to feeling more or less normal. As soon as I go for another ride, feeling fine, it will come back. Is there something I need to adjust on the bike or do you think it's a problem with my leg? It did happen before I got the new bike but did not happen until about a month or so ago. Any advice would be appreciated.
It is perfectly possible that your seat should be adjusted for example or that you just need to get used to the new bike. The most important thing is that you start out slowly training with the new ride.
Perhaps your problems ILT-band related; happens very often. The best remedy for me were these exercises with the foam roller:

If it does not get better after 2 months I would certainly suggest a professional bike fitting.

Thanks, I will give that a shot. I think I am going to do a 6 or 12 hour race in May so I want to get this taken care of.
What an awesome ride, I am seriously jealous!!!!!

Yeah, and my bike is "Coffee" colored, sure. It's black and brown, give me a break.
"Celeste..." is there a horoscope to go with that? :p

First things first. That bike is fantastic! I was riding one around the LBS about a week ago, and its terrific. I can't wait to pick one up (I have to get the new commuter first).
Okay, about this knee/thigh thing. Where does it hurt exactly? Is it right behind the knee joint, or is it on one side (and is the pain in one of the "cords" that are on either side of the back of your knee), or is it above the knee, in the back of your thigh? Have you ever injured your knee before? What is the pain like (burning, stabbing, throbbing, etc., pick an adjective)? What makes it better, and does anything specifically make it worse? Just prior to this starting, did you significantly increase your millage? Do you feel like you are in front of the Warren Commission yet?:D
Pain type and location are a lot of what goes into sorting out a particular injury. In any respect, it sounds like you have a muscle going into spasm. It also sounds like something that could be sorted out fairly easily.

As far as I can tell it is a soreness just above the knee on the back of my leg. It feels like I have significantly less control over the forward to back motion of my knee.
I may have actually significantly decreased my milage right when it happened. It seems like it was right around Thanksgiving and my friend that I ride with went home to New York. The next couple of rides, not hard rides, are when I started having problems. I hope that helps

Yep, I have a presta pump but it's not a very good pump so I use my Craftsman cordless compressor to fill my tires.

Is that pump able to get your tires up around 120psi? If so awesome, if not just wait until you ride that bad boy with the tires fully inflated!

It has 200psi limit. It's not the fastest thing in the world but it's really nice when you don't have a place for a real compressor. Plus it has a digital pressure gage built in

Does it hurt when you stand on your toes (tip toe)? Right now, I'm thinking along the lines of a popliteal strain or a calf strain. Your gastroc muscle crosses the knee joint in the back (where you are talking about), and that would give you the kind of problem you are talking about. It wouldn't hurt when you are just walking around, because the gastroc is one of the muscles we use for explosive type activity (running, jumping, etc), the soleus (the muscle under the gastroc) is the one that does all the work when we are standing and walking.
If you do feel it when you are on your toes, I would say some gentle calf stretches are in order, along with an ice bag afterwards.
Hope that helps,
Good luck, keep riding, and keep us posted.

Brockga,
I just tested a Via Nirone today, it is amazing!! You still lovin' it? If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it? The best I can find for a 105 group is $1250 for last year's model.
Thanks

I believe they have a patent (or italian equivilant) to that color. it is their "brand" color and only found on bianchis...i like the amount on the bike not overdone. (honestly i think of the frzzer pizza whenever i see a bianchi)
but the bike looks great!

I posted over in another forum but I really respect all of your opinions too. What do you think about ordering from Jenson?
Hi,
I have decided to get a Bianchi Via Nirone and found a deal at Jenson. Anyone have experience doing this? I have been to lbs and know my exact size. Here is a link

I have been riding a bit more lately as it's been warmer and I am loving the bike more and more. This is an '07 that was purchased as a demo model from a bike shop in Golden, CO. It was right at $940 shipped. It's the Ultegra/105 group with the triple crank. I will say again, I LOVE THIS BIKE. You will not be disappointed. The only issue I have found so far is that the brake pads are kinda crappy, but that's easy to change.

Thanks for all the compliments. I catch myself staring at it all the time. It is a lot more than I expected out of my first road bike.
