And there's no place like 127.0.0.1
I don't think so...there are very few DH riders on here.

Technical trails only, no big jumps and no serious downhill. I'm into C&V, but not the bikes I take on mountain trails.

Not many racers of any discipline here on BF...most people on here are trail/XC riders.

I went to my first mountain bike race in 1993. There was no such thing as "downhill" really. It was all XC, and the bikes were all very.....colourful..... Yes; I'm a retro-grouch. I miss the days when there were derailleurs made by a ton of different companies, rather than just 2.
Downhill riding/racing has it's place, its place just isn't with me. lol
A mountain bike race used to be an amazingly fun thing to see (or do). I assume it still is. I haven't been to one since 1999 or so.

I can definitely tell you its still a hell of a good time. I recently started mountain biking (about a year and a half ago is recent compared to most here it seems) and I started racing about 6 months after I started riding. I usually ride at least 4 times a week and have not been able to stop since I got started. The races are awesome. It's nice to go see what others are riding... find out how slow I am, and actually get to do something that makes me try a little. Just going for a ride is a blast but theres something about adding some sort of goal to it that makes it even more awesome.
The last race I did I blew two pedals on the first lap... busted a spring in one and broke a wing off one of my eggs right after I came around and replaced the first... I was racing ss and the ss behind me passed me while I was changing out my pedals so I took off after fixing it and for the rest of the race I chased this guy down... caught up and passed him about a mile from the finish and came rolling across with a huge smile on my face...
It's still fun. :D

I have an old Trek 850, delightfully festooned with purple anodised bits and a Manitou 2. lol
My main MTB though is a 1999 Rocky Mountain Vertex. A little bit of old and little bit of new. Original Hayes discs, original SRAM 9.0 derailleur, X-7 shifters, etc.

I ride xc trails ... to chicken to jump off anything over 2 feet. I do like to go fast though.

I guess I'm a downhiller and a dirt jumper. I ride my bike down the hill by my house sometimes, and I huck off of things made of dirt some times (Like the tops of hills).

No. Junkyard and I take offense. We are latte-swilling poughzers that love to hang at the trail head (or on a mountain biking simulator).

I have a thermos of espresso for before and apres ride.
I do XC (and road). I don't do the gnar drops over 2-3 ft.. No more racing here, did a crapload of it in the 90's.

Huh?
You're way off. Most of us are just general riders who do a bit of everything. Somme XC racers and pure DH guys hang out here, but the majority are either new to the sport one way or the other, or have been doing it for a while and ride a bit of everything.

What scrub said is the fact jack. We pretty much shred the gnar around here.

I thought that was anyone with a bike that has a rear suspension.
I'll admit I'm only saying that 'cause I cant afford one.
But I think it would be really hard to be a pure DHer.

I suppose that a dead giveaway for a pure downhiller would be: owns only one bike with 10inches of travel front and rear, bike weighs 45lbs..
What if they also ride around flat parking lots?
Is there such a thing as someone who only climbs their bike and gets off to push for the downhills?

Yes, me! Particularly when the chicken-**** factor takes hold of me.
