Electric Bikes - Electrec Bike Powerpack Motor Question

Well, in my quest to increase power to my Electrec bike, I bought the Powerpack motor and controller. My intent was to use a separate 36V battery set up. I got everything assembled, motor + controller and was in the process of connecting my 36v battery pack (I just took off my Wilderness Kit set up). Well when I connected the SAE connector from the controller to the battery, it went boom with a big spark. It fried the connectors. I know the battery connections were correct because I just got the pack off my other bike. Could it be it was a faulty controller? Or what stupid thing might I have done wrong? Check to make sure the leads in to the connectors are in the same locations so that when they come together they are correspondent? Sparks are never a good sign but usually mean you shorted it out. Similar to trying to jump a car with the jumpers in the wrong places. Hopefully you didn't fry the controller also. But as usual contacting the vendor with regards to these issues often works the best as they have seen/heard it all.

I take it that motor fits on a Currie rear hub drive?

Well, the leads were the same location when I tried making the connection. I'm not sure if I fried the controller. I emailed the vendor and ask him if I can send the motor and controller back so he can check everything out. He didn't get back to me yet on that. That motor replaces the motor already on the Electrec. It just allows for 36V batteries rather than the 24V motor on there now.
