Saw one for sale in my size. It's a bit dirty and maybe a few dings and scratches. Has Suntour hung on it. Looks to be a 1986 in my googling..

What's a decent price range for this bike?

What's the ride like?

THanks!

If it's really an '86 Peloton with the original Suntour Superbe Pro components and it's in decent shape, it should be worth $350 - $500.

It rides like a contemporary Paramount, with similar geometry and Columbus SL/SP lugged frame.

Hey Scooper.

Thanks for the reply which of course, generated more questions.

As to your answer regarding the ride... I'm not sure what that means not having ridden a Paramount  or any Columbus steel.

How would you describe the ride? And is the geo more of a racer or a sport... or?

Oh and the ebay auction is 230317153166 so you can see for your much more expert eyes. Shouldn't spend on another bike but wanted to know more about this bike that might sway me one way or another.

Thanks again.

The eBay bike is a 1984 model, not '86.

1984 Peloton catalog page (http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1980_1990/1984Ltwt06.html)

1984 Peloton specifications (http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1980_1990/1984Ltwt18.html)

Columbus SL and SP were excellent chromoly tube sets. SL was very light, and SP was heavier (thicker walls), so by using SP where extra stiffness was required, the frame could be tuned for strength, stiffness, and light weight by using the combination of SL and SP tubes. I have an '87 Paramount made with SL/SP mix, and with similar road racing geometry (shorter wheelbase, relatively steep angles), and it is a very comfortable ride with agile handling.

The '84, like the '86, used Superbe Pro components. This is a very nice bike.

Many thanks Scooper.

I dunno what I'd do without you guys.

Leaning towards passing. Have enough bikes and I just shouldn't spend on it atm... sigh...

Anyway, just wanted to update in case others might be interested in it. 23 hrs left..

If you look at the 2nd pic you can see the small ding in the top tube.

I had an '86? Peloton in the black and white paint scheme that was 100% bone stock original right down to the bar tape, seat and tubular rims. I paid $200 and it couldnt have had more than 400-500 miles on it.

I couldnt sell it on ebay or CL for $400 so I parted it out.

As far as the bike itself....top notch all the way. Every comopnent is comparable to anything Campy or Shimano was making incuding Record and Dura Ace. As one would expect the ride is superbe. Very quick, agile and zippy. If mine was a 54cm I probably would have kept it.

The frames were constructed of Columbus main tubes with Tange rear stays and a Tange fork.
