I hope this works, but let's see if I can do a poor imitation of the Historian. I rode 60 miles today, stopping in the middle to meet my Dad to watch football. It was a "Chamber of Commerce" day, about 75 and sunny, light breeze. The route was spectacular, too, including my regular commute along the Indian River, through downtown Cocoa, and stretching into Vierra. Some of you Northern folks might enjoy the green scenes, palm trees, and the people in short pants.

My street, which goes on like this for 15 glorious miles. I commute them all almost every day, rolling along the banks of the Indian River, with just as many walkers, bikers, and dogs as cars:

A neighbor's coquina rock. These are formed as tides leave saltwater in low spots on rocks on the shore. Evaporation raises the salt content, and the salty solution bores these round holes down through the rocks. These rocks are useful for mooring blimps, and holding mailboxes:rolleyes::

Reflection of a skinny Fred(although still a clyde at 215):

"Flagler's Folly", a stretch of railroad which once went from New England to Key West. He intended to bring coal to Key West to refuel steam ships. The railroad also brought rich New Englanders to Fla., to stay in Flagler's hotels, like the one that became Flagler College. A lot of freight still rides these rails--to, from, and between ports:

The sidewalks in Viera are amazing! I passed a golf cart, and neither of us left the concrete. It's 20 feet to the road, not a side street or driveway in sight (gated communities). I'm not too proud to choose it over the busy 2-lane road nearby, sans shoulder:

Palm trees make decent bike racks. Time to head in for football and beer with Chewy Sr.:

Action shot! Chewy Sr. on the ride back to Dad's house:

How does the chicken cross the road? In Vierra, take the sidewalk underpass:

These guys flew here for the winter. Good call!:

Great photos! A lot of beautiful scenery. I live in Arizona and we have great winter riding weather, but I am always jealous of places that have water.

Unfortunately there was a lot of water on my recovery ride today, it just was the rainy variety.

The Historian will like your version (*8 pic ) of a covered bridge.
Nice place to ride and live.

Very cool. I've ridden that area once when I was down at my sisters who lives in Satellite Beach. I love that area down there.

Wow, what a great location to ride. What is the summer weather like? Props to Chewy Sr for showing his riding style!

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Nice pics of Florida! The Mrs. and I are planning on moving there in a year or so... I'm not sure how I'll take the "no mountains" thing, but we'll see.

OMG that looks soooo warm and inviting. My wife is looking at a position in Gainesville, I may have to offer a few words of encouragement in that direction. Thanks for sharing.

The summer forecast is high 91, 40% chance of rain, every day from Easter to Halloween. You get used to it. The only bad part is, it can rain anytime, any day in the summer, so you have to be ready, even when it looks sunny out!

Chewy Sr. saw me lose all the weight, and he got into it. I got him a bike, and he rides about 30-40 miles a week now, and he says he wants to do more. He's already gotten a bit faster.

Thanks to everyone for all the responses. I wasn't too confident about the whole upload process, but they came out o.k. This really is a nice undiscovered area, so don't tell anyone!

Beautiful pictures of a equally beautiful place. I am very jealous as I look through my office window at the frigid, brown, leafless scenery. I can't wait for spring to come here...

I can truly relate; I lived in Cincinnati for many years. My secret: buy Opening Day tickets early, and tack them up where you can see them every day. Then you always know spring is really on the way! Tell me they still have the Opening Day Parade. I made about 15 in a row, at the Old Riverfront Stadium, before I moved.

Highway overpasses and bridges are Florida's 'mountains.'

Doing a "Historian" impersonation is like fixing your Cadillac convertible to look like a 1989 Yugo. I think you made an excellent Chewybrian post, which was a better goal anyway.

Oh yes, and I hate you just as I do the Texans for their warm riding weather. :)

Yes they are and some are considered a Hors Category climb , at least by me.

Great pics. Man, I would love to ride routes like that. Looking out the office window just now and 33 degrees and raining. Cannot get more yuckier than that.
