being the season
do yo all think that fruit cakes would be a good ride food?
they taste ok to me
as good as some energy bars
they are full of fruit and nuts
or is the fat content to much

Sounds like a good idea actually. It would probably crumble quickly and not stay fresh for too long but there is nothing magic about specialist energy bars other than convenience.

Most fruit cakes that I have seen have the crumble coef that is similar to a concrete block. Fruit cakes would be great ride food. Lots of sugar. Besides you would probably be really hungry and not notice the taste too much. Can they taste worse than power bars?

i don't really mind the taste to much
they are just as good tasting as cliff bars if not better
my wife worked a century ride and they gave out some energy bars that tasted just like fruit cake
that is what put the idea in my head
i will give it a shot
i have a 1lb fruit cake to work on
Nothing negates your super light carbon frame and tubular wheelset like 500 g of fruitcake!

true true
but i am not going to live on the stuff
it probably has twice the fat of an energy bar
and my weight is very good now
anyway as hard as i hammer fat has no chance!!! :D
what you want is malt loaf. doesn't make so much mess and comes (in the UK at least) in convenient jersey-pocket-friendly sizes. also, much cheaper than energy bars!
but if you already have the fruit cake, go for it!
Fruit cakes make a great cycling food!! I lived on the stuff when I was touring Australia during the winter of 2004.
Just be careful you don't have one of those that's soaked in rum. You can still get a DUI on a bike.
