Fifty Plus (50+) - Trainer Fan

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So I've been suffering through using a trainer in the basement for the last few weeks. Biggest problem is overheating and dripping sweat all over everything. It really makes the time go s-l-o-w.
Yesterday I finally dragged a fan out and set it up in front of my rig. Wow, what a difference! I was much more comfortable and much less bored! Maybe there was the psychological boost of having wind in my face, too!
If you haven't done it yet, stick a fan in front of your trainer.

:innocent:Naw--- Just set the trainer up outside in the garden:innocent:
Have to admit that the after effects of a hard training session in the basement are not that good. Especially the next morning.
So as you don't perspire quite so much----Does this mean you are not working hard enough now?

Ouch!
Acccording to my HRM I worked much harder with the fan blowing on me. Maybe it was the headwind?
I'd train outdoors, but the cooling is a bit too effective at this time of year.

I use an old desk top fan all the time while on the trainer. It makes a huge difference by keeping me cooler and the HR down a bit. It is kind of dicey while I'm on the rollers. I've crashed enough times that the whirrling blades are something I do think about.

The title suggested that you were a fan of training. I view training like going to the dentist: a necessary evil. but evil nonetheless.
Maybe I should use one. I'll go thru 24 oz. of water during a good Coach Troy session.

Instead of fighting the headwind, perhaps you should put the fan behind you.

In addition to the headwind, you can get a more strenuous workout by raising the front wheel a few inches higher than the rear wheel. From what I hear it is a great way to train for hills / climbing !!
