I got an iPhone for Christmas and would like to use it this year on tour. I want to use a handlebar mount so I can see the GPS mapping and listen to music. This of course will eat batteries. Does anyone know if you can use a dyno-hub to charge / run this?

Thanks, Greg

Yes, it'll take a bit of hacking but there are several folks who have done this. Be prepared to get intimate with a soldering iron.

I think you'd be better off with:

a) a "Solio" solar-powered charger
b) maps

In general, GPS isn't quite reliable enough to replace maps. It's a good backup though.

I would be worried about how an iphone would do mounted on the handlebars. Wouldn't rain, sweat, vibration, etc eventually cause problems for your iphone?

Google (http://geektechnique.org/projectlab/511) is quick (http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Charge-Any-USB-Device-by-Riding-Your-Bike/) and easy (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=382273).

Sorry, that probably came off as snarky.

I haven't been able to find a turnkey solution out there, but at least reading those articles and threads will get you started.

Yea, neither have I, read plenty of articles that sort of / kind of get close, but nothing concrete. Thanks for the links.

Show the above circuit diagram to a friend that knows simple electronics and can solder.
