Tandem Cycling - Used Tandems, where to find them??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Come March/April, we've only got $1000 dollars to spend on a tandem, the only NEW one we can afford is a KHS Tandemanina Sport, YES, I know it's heavy, the frame is a mix of steel and Cromo, (certain frame tubes), sorry that's the BEST NEW we can afford.

So where are you lovely folk finding all these "USED TANDEMS", I've looked on Craigslist for Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Denver, Ft. Collins, Rocky Mnt. areas and there's been 1 used tandem across the whole state of CO.:( Is there a good site on the web that has "Used Tandems", ya I know that we'd have to buy a OLD one in our price range but, I've had a few good used bicycles over the 53 years of my life so I'd be willing to take a chance. Thanks for any leads or sites, it's greatly appreciated!:thumb:

We got lucky. At Richardson Bike Mart, they had a Santana Arriva, in just the right size, for $900.
It had bar-end shifters and was steel, and has been a GREAT bike. I guess we got pretty lucky, but
they're out there.

The biggest deal going the used route is " Patience"...but it is usually worth the time and effort. I like ebay but you have to really do your homework and be ever vigilant. Good luck.

I placed a wanted to buy add on craigslist and had 10 or 12 people contact me...some we not what i was looking for but i did get a great bike for a grand...sometimes people are more willing to upgrade if they have a buyer for something they already have...There were a couple of nice Santana Arrivas for 1000.00 but came across a 2004 Burley Tamburello for the same price...they wouldnt budge on the price but it is well worth the money. be patient..

:thumb: Ya I've checked them out but they don't have anything in used "affordable" tandems. They carry the KHS line up of tandems BUT I notice they don't even list the "KHS Sport" model, I guess it's below their standards, SIGH:rolleyes: Still I will keep an eye on there used page. I'm really hoping for a more "fater tire" tandem as we do like to do some of the dirt and mixed terrain bike paths that run through the city of Colorado Springs, CO. Thanks!!

+1. There's a website somewhere that allows you to search all the local Craigslist sites at once, which would be a good idea. I've seen several nice tandems posted on Long Island Craigslist, for example. Also, it's a good idea to save a search in ebay, so ebay will send you an email if anything gets listed.

edit:
The website that searches all of Craigslist is called "Craig's Helpe (http://www.craigshelper.com/)r."
