I know many cycletourists only stay in a particular city for a night or two before moving on, but if a cycletourist was to spend a week or more in an area to have a good look around, there are places available in some cities for that person to stay relatively inexpensively.
http://www.rentingspaces.ca/index.htm is a service for Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg, and mainly posts places for students, but not exclusively.
http://www.rentingspaces.ca/search.htm?moreinfo=21023
This place rents private rooms on a weekly basis for 1-2 people anywhere from $200-$300 a week, which works out to about $28-42/night.
http://www.rentingspaces.ca/search.htm?moreinfo=7240
This one caters mainly to students and runs $150/week, but if they had a free room, someone other than a student might be able to stay as well.
Those prices are comparable to hostel prices, but for private rooms rather than dorm rooms.
Do you have a similar service, or places like these, in your city?
