Most of the weight is in that frame and forks.
I had a Mosh cruiser that was a bulldozer.I took the bike apart and found out the frame weighed 15 lbs
And The forks weighed 5 lbs .I put it back together and unloaded it to the first person that wanted to buy it.

is it possible to get a smaller chainwheel and if it is what would fit on it

Capridrifter
01-07-09, 12:16 PM
Yes get a smaller chain wheel and cog size and that chain looks pretty hefty as well You can also shave a few ounces off the handle bars just by trimming them down a little, how much or at all is up to your preference. Oh and the seat post you can use a post from a touring bike that made of aluminum and you could also replace the seat with an ultra light plastic or titanium one $$$ and the wheels I bet the wheels are heavy duty as well...

Actually in order to give the best advise we should know what type of riding that you do.

what is wrong with you guys i am asking a simple question on what parts to get and you guys cant answer it. all i need is a new chain wheel, cog and chain that will fit on my bike.

Capridrifter
01-08-09, 07:56 PM
For me its easier to answer that with the parts in hand..Cog and chain wheel ratio is pretty much rider choice if its geared to low or to high you wont like it. Do you like how it feels now? whats the number of teeth on the cog and chain wheel?

Because you are annoying, impatient, and there is no parts list so we can't tell you what will fit. Btw any generic bmx chain will work.

No problem, I've been there before.

Perhaps even the same chain but with a bunch of links removed to fit the new stuff;)
http://www.albes.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1227
"13 TOOTH ODYSSEY 13T FREEWHEEL" smallest they make...I'm thinking about buying that as well.

Now for a chain wheel that will match the ratio you want....
Somebody thats better at math may want to chime in any moment now....
http://www.albes.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=215

http://www.danscomp.com/products.php?cat=PARTS&show=Chainwheels

GOODS BMX didn't have any chainwheel's that are small and light
with a 13 tooth freewheel you will want a small chainwheel to get the desired ratio and therefore less metal= less weight which it what you wanted in the first place.

So we are half way there;)

By the way....My Mosh is a 50 lb bike, So as I'm looking at parts for yours I'm also looking for mine.

mtbtrek
01-09-09, 10:44 AM
so the chain wheel and cog have to be certain size to match. would a 25t chainwheel fit on a 13t cog. is there a chart somewhere or do you just get to know things as you ride bmx

CMcMahon

What is on the bike now.Tell me the size of the chainwheel and rear.
Do you like the grear ratio the way it is now. When you ride it does it pedal just right for the riding you are doing.

25-9.

what size chain wheel will go with a 13t cog

MY26INCHCRUISER
01-09-09, 11:30 AM
a 36 up front and 13 in the rear will give you almost the same ratio as a 44/16

mtbtrek
01-09-09, 11:45 AM
i think i am going 30:11

so would this fit on my bike

https://www.danscomp.com/458175.php?cat=PARTS

what kind of cog would i need. i was looking and it looked like the go on different ways, how do i know what would fit on my bike

MY26INCHCRUISER

A 30/11 will work,I would remove the rear wheel and take a picture of the hub.Post it here and I will look at it.I really do not know what hub you have so it is hard to give advise.

I just ordered that Kink sprocket along with some other parts. The sprocket should fit it is whatever you have in the back you need to worry about. Get some plastic pedals.

you need a new rear wheel is you want to drop your gear ratio. You need to get a cassette hub to run anything smaller then 12 in the rear.

Capridrifter
01-09-09, 04:08 PM
Thats why I posted the 13....He cant afford the cassette with only $100 to spend on all the parts

Get a 36t sprocket up front. It doesn't really matter what kind. Get the 13t Odyssey freewheel. Cut the seat post. If you want, you can take the brakes off. Don't worry about the bars. Other than that, more cash is the only option.

FuzzyRyder
01-10-09, 06:53 PM
No he can't its not a flip flop hub. Probably the smallest ration he can run with that set up is what hes got.

At least $100 for just the hub, then another $40 about for a sprocket. So at the least, I'd say about $140.

01-12-09, 01:39 AM
Don't forget new spokes, unless you somehow luck out on finding a new hub with the exact same flange dimensions, and also labour for the wheel rebuild if you can't do it yourself. So yeah. More than it's worth.

ROFLMAO! um....Its a BMX we ALL are guilty of putting more money into it then "its worth"

Besides its worth it if he likes the bike and thats what he really wants;)

i guess i can live with a 36t chain wheel and just cutting the seat post and some plastic pedals

thanks for the help!!

What he was trying to say is why put more than $100 into a bike that was bought for probably $150 originally.

and that's why it's a waste of money replacing parts that aren't broken. save your money, ride it till it breaks, then worry about upgrading or replacing it when the time comes

but until i get money to buy a new one i want a bike that weighs less then my car so i am able to have fun on it and not rip my arms off just to get the tires of the ground

i can sympathise, but in all honesty mate, even if you spent the equivalent of a new complete on buying the lightest, most dialled parts you can get, you're still going to have a bloody heavy bike because of the frame.

save until you can afford a new complete, make the best you can of what you've got in the meantime, and by the time you get your new bike you'll be strong enough to do whatever you want on it.

Capridrifter
01-16-09, 04:36 AM
Thats like saying i'm dumb for fixing up my Mosh....yeah its a heavy bike but most of that is in the parts and I like my Mosh I am a bigger guy and it fits me well. 6'1 190 to 200 lbs depending...

What I am trying to say is that if he likes his bike then he should do what he wants to it and he is just trying to get tips on how to to it not flack for wanting to to it.

fuzzbox
01-16-09, 06:50 AM
But you never made a thread whining about how heavy it is.
