Is it possible to use road shoes with mtb pedals? I have a pair of adidas road shoes and recently purchased a pair of wellgo wpd-813 pedals at a steal. I was planning on using them to ride road, Is that do-able? :eek:

If your shoes have the proper 2-bolt hole pattern then yes, it's doable. Some shoe manufacturers sell adapters too. I will have to tell you that I've had poor experiences doing this. I tried mounting Speedplay Frog cleats to my Sidi road shoes. I had to get an SPD adapter. This plastic adapter mounts to the three-bolt Look holes and has slotted holes for the two-bolt SPD style cleats which most MTB cleats subscribe to. There was a lot of flex in the adapter, it raised my stack height by quite a bit, added a bit of weight and the cleat box was a kind of cumbersome to deal with in terms of engaging the pedals.

Actually, the biggest headache with mtb cleats on road bike shoes is when you're OFF the bike. Walking
just isn't very comfortable because the cleat extends so far down below the slick sole of the shoe. But, having said that, I know a lot of folks who do just what you're wanting to try. Try it & see for yourself.

I do it. I use Specialized road shoes with SPD but also have SPD walking shoes. Between the two bikes, it is easier to switch between shoes I can walk in (going to the store, park, friend's...). When I want to log some miles the road shoes are lighter and fit better. Either way I can ride either bike (Hybrid and a Road) depending on my mood, weather, and other factors.
Try it, if you don't like it you can switch.

Don't forget to intall the pontoons with road shoes and SPD pedals.
