I know this has been done before...but humor me please. Am trying to pick new wheels that would be good climbers and TT as well as durable. I know it's a compromise but, the choices are:

Velomax Orion II, seems to be good, some complaints about broken spokes set in lock tight...broken off without a good way to get them out. Not very aero

Mavic Ksryium SSC SL, will they hold up under 180lb rider and lots of use, I read mixed comments, not very aero, I love my SSCs

American Classic 420, again questions of durability but I like the aero and weight combo

Campy Euros, This was going to be my choice but a little worried about the dual spoke issues and am told they can be very tight with some tires, I hate that. Also not especially aero

I was planning on staying away from other dual spoke set ups

I am also looking at some Velocity Aeroheads custom built with Speedcific hubs 24/28 spokes, weigh in at 1450 gr pr. for $300. I am thinking this is the best bang for the buck by far...how do they hold up? Is there another rim/hub combo that would offer aero ,weight and durability. I generally ride on ok roads...some a little rough. 180 lbs +/- and a pretty good spinner, I can push em pretty hard at my weight on a hard climb or sprint.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm looking too. I weigh a little over 180 and will not likely get much below that. Currently have basic rolf vectors that came on my bike. They have held up very well. I'm thinking about mavic op, black or blue if I can find them, 28 spoke front, 32 rear, alloy nipples, dura ace or at least ultegra hubs. This sound right?

I hadn't heard of any problems with the Velomax Orions.... and their service is terrific. Have you thought about Topolino's? Very high Zoot factor..... :D

I'm sorry, but i don't think you can do it. You need light "normal" wheels for climbing and normal riding, and you really need disks, tri-spokes, or 40mm (minimum) carbons for time-trialing. You will lose MINUTES using a standard rim in a time-trial.

What we do is suck up to the local bike shop, and borrow 2nd hand tri-spokes just for a time-trial. This'll save ya many bucks.

You do not lose 'minutes' in time trial but you lose time.

How about Formula XERO XR1's. I've researched this into the ground.

Another alternative is the BOntrager race x lite in the rear and the aero version for the front.
