Those Wellgo pedals aren't too bad either, for a platform.
Are the bars really that bad? Seems weird....

IDK the bars aren't "bad", but I'd rather swap them for my own personal confidence reasons.

I just got mine in last night and put it together real quick for a spin. Unfortunately I flatted the tire. Sucks. I'm actually wondering what size tube to put in there?

I threw my box away for my spare tube, but it's like a 700c X 48 or something like that. You LBS should be able to help.

You can stretch a 26" mountain tube to fit a 29er in a pinch.

2010 Outcast 29 with Disc Brakes and RS DART3 due in August 2009

We are also getting some rigid forks with disc tabs in Black and Matt Gray
should be on bikeisland in about 90 days

I took it out on much more advance trails yesterday with my brother who was riding a fully custom $$$$ DeSalvo Ti frame.

I'm replacing the 18T freewheel with a 20T and upgrading the stem and seatpost (Thomson) and a 1/8" chain.

Climbing the big wheeler was pretty huffy-puffy, and you kinda have to do the math with what the locals ride on 26" and try to match it. My brother and his team members rock 32/18 on these particular trails with their 26" bikes and I was using the 33/18 on the Motobecane... so I had to take breaks on the climbs, especially when your cadence get's screwy getting behind a geared bike when the rider is in full granny gear mode.

The stem I had was a minimal offset freeride stem, and it made things a little funny in the steering department, so the 110mm 31.8 Thompson stem should do me right. I'm a beefy guy and so I'm going with the 1/8" bombproof SS chain.

All in all, I'm taking this thing to the apocalypse. It's a TON of fun, and we were really hauling arse on the downhill sections of the singletracks. Even with the rigid fork, it handled alright.

I think I might get one of these. The lack of disc tabs is a little lame, but for 350 bucks I don't really care, and it will see mainly commuter duty. I have some parts to swap on for the handlebars/stem and such, so the cheapness of thos eitems doesn't really bug me.

On the other hand monocogs are disc ready and about 100 bucks more. I dunno.

The Monocog is a beautiful frame. I had a 26" version BITD, and it was great.

getting ready to add the Outcast to my herd...but not sure what size I need. I ride a IronHorse (hardtail) Warrior in a size 19.5" and it's a little snug for me, and a Bianchi road bike in a 59 (great fit). Looking at the size chart for the Outcast, would the 19" work? The standover height seems too tall...I'm 6/2 and my normal pants inseam is 32". I have a longer torso and arms to consider in the mix. Maybe the 17"? It's my first look at a 29" bike and the sizing has me confused. Much appreciate your help.

That's a tough one. I'm 5'9", 30" inseam... normal proportions as far as height is concern and I ride a 17". Quite possibly you can get a longer stem?

I raised the seatpost to the maximum height and my pedal stroke is spot on. For strength concerns, I bought a longer seatpost so I don't have to max out the stock one. I'm willing to beet a 19" would fit you better than a 17".
