ahahaha, a lot of people are gonna give you **** for this but im just getting the hang of no hands to one handed wheelies and im using 15/46. i guess it just depends on how fast you wanna be able to do a wheelie at.

generally, the lower your ratio the more control you'll have during wheelies and stuff like that.
that being said, i run 46x17 and have no problems with wheelies. It's all about technique.
Keo, who is pretty much the master of riding on one wheel supposedly runs a super tall gear.

I find no handed pop-ups to be easier than 1 handed because of the equal weight distribution when leaning backwards, but only marginally. that being said, i've been riding 48/19 and learning tricks on this ratio. i would like to drop to a smaller set-up if not necessarily a smaller ratio. perhaps 44 or 46 on the front and 17 cog.

As with skidding, I don't think gear ratio will entirely help you wheelies. It's primarily technique.

keo is also hugely tall with massive legs, plus bikes that have the top tube coming up only to mid thigh, heh
