Mountain Biking - Heres a little share-something-about-yourself thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Heres a question for you all:
What is your favorite aspect of riding? The speed? Control? Freedom from motors/electricity? Something completely different?
For me, its the control of the bike and the way it becomes an extension of you. Getting stalled going up a technical section, going into a trackstand... and you just think about how you'll get past it and next thing you know -- you're past it!

I love the feeling of just me and the woods. I like getting away from everything, putting everything out of my mind. I also just like pusing myself as far and fast as I can. Another lap? No problem. It's toast. :)
Going to hit the trails right now, hopefully I can push hard. :)

Riding to me is going up the steepest, rockiest or longest hill/mountain I can find. I love trying to push myself faster than everyone else and the feeling of accomplishment when you finally make it to the top of that huge hill that everybody else has to stop on.

I'm in it for the fame and fortune! WooHoo; and how the women line up to get with bikers. Well ok perhaps not but I can dream right?

For me it is the feeling of being in complete control while, I actually very little control. You know that downhill thing. It is all about gravity and speed for me ;)

To me it is being outside in the sunshine, finding that isolated perfect road, seeing and hearing nature. not being a part of the mad rush of traffic on overcrowded highway...
I look back on the many roads I have biked...What, must be pushing 70,000 miles..
In the flash of a moment, I can see incredible scenery. As if I were there right now...
Desert valley from atop mountains, high forested cliffs over the ocean, historic villages on the Loire..The smell of grapes in Burgundy...People in foreign lands oggling my California Jersey..Kind gestures from foreigners inviting us into their homes for dinner. We being somewhat of an oddity..
All at a relatively slow pace, stopping when I want.Under my own power.
Our tour rendouving with the Tour De France and photographing the guy in the yellow jersey.
Just cycling atop a hill adjacent my home town and looking down on the town, as if seeing the city on the hill, with its avocado and orange groves about its periphery.

I just enjoy it as something to do. I like the more technical aspect rather than pushing myself physically or getting out of the real world for a while.
Just me and my bike and my balance and fast speed is all I need.

For myself it has to be meeting new people. I have met Amish familys, I've met Klansmen, I've met everyone from the vilage idiot to the town Mayor. Thats the thing I like about traveling by bicycle, most people want to know all about your travels.

It keeps me going towards my retirement.

Everything, its the mental challenge, the physical challenge, the ability to be outdoors enjoying nature and the world around you, smelling the fresh cut grass on the road, and the patches of wildflowers on the mountain bike. I feel like God has created all of this for us so the least I can do is get out and really experience it. I just don't think you can do that riding around in a car with the CD player going.

Freedom I guess. That means a lot of different things to different people. To me it means that it is me, out somewhere where I am alone. No wife, no kids, no work, no chores, no requirements, just fresh air and the bike and me. That is freedom to me.

Can't give a reason, I'm just a sad b"^*"rd, who enjoys going out with his mates, and getting muddy, sweating up the hills, showing the others how to go downhills, but I do enjoy the breakfast halfway round the ride.
Hello to all, new here....
But.....
I like most of the folks I have ridden with at Wintergreen VA. The friendlyness was amazing to me. EVERYONE wanted to make sure you could ride if something was broke.
The actuall riding for me is the absolute rush of the ride and the sense of accomplishment....

i definitley enjoy the adrenaline rush of riding. i want to go faster and faster everytime im out. i want to push myself to the limits. i enjoy the speed and danger aspect of it. If i make a steep line, ill feel like i accomplishsed something. if i fall over..ill get up and try again.
I enjoy the fact that its just an awesome workout. climing that hill with all your might and then speeding down the other side. nothing more rewarding than that.
I enjoy the adventure aspect of it. I like discovering new things... seeing new places... experiencing new experiences. Cycling feeds my wanderlust. I always find something new and different on every ride.

Everything. Being outdoors, pushing my limits, clearing a tough section and thinking, "Whoa, that was awesome!", hanging out with my friends, pushing each other's abilities, comparing scars, checking out your buddy's new bike, the comraderie, the self gratification, the beauty of the outdoors and the enjoyment of God's blessings.

PUshing myself to new levels, and to enjoy the ride. And the fact that I'm in control of something that is borderline between mayhem and a DH run.

I enjoy going full speed down a trail and having things pop up that I didn't realize were there and having to think fast about how I am going to get around-or over- that obstacle. Its also a way for me and my friends to push each other and try to do a bigger drop than the other did.
and falling - biking gives the best scars and chicks dig scars :)
I just like to ride. I like the technical rocky off camber downhill switchback stuff for the mental challenge, and the uphill stuff for the physical challenge. Hell, I'll ride almost anything. I just like to ride. I also like riding with my husband, when I'm not in training. He and I will rent a cabin a couple of hours away at different trail systems, pack food, and go on epics together. We always come home bloody, dirty, bruised, and satisfied.

i love the feeling of a well deserved shower after a hard ride. then relaxing with something to eat and thinking about doing it all over again the next day.

i think it would be pushing myself, in every aspect... wether its to go farther/faster or to go through a technical rock bed, or just do some neat stunt in the local parking lot.. its just so much fun.
The best part of riding is the feeling you get after you stomp something you have never done, for the first time. If it's landing that big drop, or riding down (or up if you're into that thing) the steepest hill, taking the knarliest line or even if it's just knowing you've been out and had a good time.
Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it. Now let's just join in a circle around a fire and sing 'Koom Bye Are'.*
*have no idea how to spell that.

the ability to do all the afore mentioned things, especially the getting away from civilization.i enjoy the trip to where im gonna ride, the ride and the ride from it reflecting on what i have done, where i can improve, how my bike handled, and to dream about when i can go back there again.i mostly ride close to home for about an hour and love the technical stuff but will also enjoy riding thru a neighborhood and watching the kids be kids and life be life.GOD made a great world and (as said previously)we are blessed to be able to enjoy an aspect that those who never get into our sport really do miss out on.life is SO MUCH BETTER ON A BIKE
