Commuting - Finally! Ergon GC3 coming to market

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Woohoo! Lock-on, ergon grips, L-bend bar ends and all in one package.

http://www.ergon-bike.com/en/grips/gc3.html - not sure why the LBS and the ergon pictures differ. I'd prefer the bar ends to be smooth without extra grip inserts/covering (like below).

The rubber insert is needed....otherwise the barend is slippery with wet weather and sweaty hands. The inserts have also been a highly suggested addition from consumers all over the World.

Damn, I guess I must be one of the very few that like my grips grippy and my bar ends smooth.

By the way how is ..... (veteran dude sponsored by you, Jeff something, I think :P ;) ) doing?

Will they work w/grip shifters? And where am I supposed to mount the mirror?

And where am I supposed to mount the mirror?

On your helmet.

Not a chance.

Their existing grips have Gripshift versions. Wife has a set on her Specialized. I don't know if these will. Since they don't block the end of the handlebar, if you have a mirror that goes in the end of the bar it'll still work. Just insert the mirror instead of the supplied plug.

Per the Ergon site:

Sizes: S, L GC3
Sizes: S, L GC3 Gripshift® compatible
Sizes: S, L GC3 Rohloff®/Nexus® compatible

So...Yup, looks like a gripshift compatible version will be available. I love my GC2's, might just have to pick up a pair of these to try out.

If you don't have the gripshift compatible version, then I have previously cut down a pair of Ergon grips (with a hacksaw) to accomodate grip shifts - not quite as pretty as the official version but the chopping job is barely noticeable.

Yes, there will be a gripshift version. As for a barend mirror, it will work with all our grips but the GC3 and GX3 coming this Spring. It uses a different camp which closes up the bar end.

Hey! That is me in the photo above. Looks like the Dakota 50! Cool!

Yeah, small world. Belated congratulations on winning your category. It was a fun day out even if I wasn't riding.

P.S. You look as though you could use some Powercranks (http://www.powercranks.com/v4pages/videos-list.htm) :D

Any updates on when I'll *finally* be able to get my hands on the GC3's? :D

No one knows either, huh?

I love my GC2, but the base has finally started to rub smooth and was looking to replace them. Might need to just wait now for the GC3's

A bread knife works, too.

Unfortunately the importer for the USA does not bring in the versions for Rohloff/Nexus/SRAM twist shifter geared hub bikes, short right and full length left. I always find it annoying to find that there are versions of a product shown on the manufacturer's web site which I cannot find here even though other versions are available.

Another example from the same importer is the Topeak Super Tourist DX rack. Only the disc brake compatible version is imported. The PDF catalog shows other versions but they are only obtainable by ordering from overseas. A PITA.

Would starting the cut with a PVC pipe cutter help keep it "clean"?

I suppose if the pipe cutter had enough of the cylindrical portion to work with. In my case, the slice happened where the grip has an irregular cross-section.
