After looking through many of the Garmin discussions most people just say get the DVD version for the maps so it can by used on the computer. Are there any reasons or advantages in buying the SD card version?

DVD version if it corrupts they'll replace and you can still transfer maps to the unit. SD version you're out the maps until they warranty it.

Only thing I could think is time. It takes a while to build and transfer the maps to the sd. I'd still buy the dvd though, one reason is backups, I can copy the dvd and store it offsite, other is you can put maps from two products on one sd card with the dvd.
